Is anything going to happen to the PC Mastercard? Haven't seen anything from them

Yup, CIBC & Loblaws part ways.
Lets see how Simplii competes with Tangerine, now that each is wholly owned by CIBC & Scotia respectively, 2 of the Big 5.
Maybe TD, BMO, RBC will now be forced to come with an exclusive Online bank of their own . Maybe they will take out EQ bank which is pretty good itself.

I am afraid, Simplii maybe facing a hard time competing with Tangerine - their Orange Key Strategy is quite effective and now, with their no-fee cash-back MC and some well performing investment options, CIBC would have to come up with even better product offers and promo strategies than the ScotiaBank!

@tjthemanto - would you like to add a few words about EQ Bank, what you like about them, etc. I never even heard about them before ...

You can avoid using cheques all together - especially when you have to pay for them!

A debit card will not give you much in savings. I would suggest you get a good cash-back card for yourself instead.
