Thread: Notary for documents served

Hi, I am involved in a smalls claims court case I am doing myself. This is my first time and hopefully my last time. I have given the small claim documents to the person I am suing. Apparently I now have to get an "affidavit of service" sealed by a notary public. I am running the case myself so of course I don't want to spend lots on a notary public. Is there such a thing as a free notary public service? If not, anyone know of a cheap notary public in the Whitby or Oshawa area? Many thanks.

Hi Jubo. It's actually a very simple step. I did a google search and it looks like your best option is "Oshawa-Whitby Notary Public": http://oshawanotarypublic.ca/
According to them, they go from $39 to $9 based on the number of documents you have.
Just give them a call and they should be able to sort it out for you. Whenever I have used a notary, it's usually a 5 to 10 minute thing. I once had to walk back home to get my ID though, so be sure to bring your ID.Last edited by everton4; Mon, Aug 28th, 2017 at 10:59 AM.
