Does anyone know of a survivor of suicide group in or near Halifax?
I'd recommend calling 311 to see if they could direct you to an organization, and maybe ask your family doctor/health clinic if they are aware of any.
Hi MillieH,
This site has listings for suicide support groups in Halifax, Springhill, Kentville, and New Glasgow.
There are some more listings for NS Survivor Support Centres here. (More info about the SOS Nova Scotia group).
If you or a loved-one would like to receive a Nova Scotia Survivors of Suicide support package, there is a PDF available. There is also a contact page if anyone would like to request a hard copy of this package.
This page from the Canadian Mental Health Association has a lot of helpful resources and links, some of them specific to Nova Scotia, some of them from Canadian sources, and some of them from American sources.
Wishing you and those close to you the very best. ((hugs))
Thank you very much for your suggestions.. I was able to find her a group that meets monthly.
It may be useful to keep in mind that some funeral homes run different support groups, so that is an additional resource to consider as well. Libraries may have speakers that talk about grief resources too beyond what local health systems may offer as part of community outreach services.
