    Some of you may have noticed that i havent been posting much for the past several months. Well, on Aug 7th we received news that granddaughter #3 was diagnosed with ganglions cancer and would require an operation and all the rest. Aug 7th was also her 11th birthday. Great news, right!

    We were devastated. My daughter was getting married on Aug 27th and she was freaking out! She wanted to cancel the wedding, etc but everything was arranged and paid for. We convinced her go get on with the wedding and deal with Kassy`s cancer after that.

    This cancer would never have been discovered if it wasnt for a visit to the dentist who took x-rays on one of her back molars and saw something unusual. The dentist sent her right away to the hospital in the area (local country hospital). The hospital took some more x-rays and then sent her on the Hôpital St in Montréal (one of 2 leading children`s hospitals in Montréal). Amazingly it took only 5 days from start to finish. And apparently Kassy was Lucky because she was in the early stages of ganglions cancer. She was given some sort of medication and was scheduled for surgery to remove the 2 largest cancerous ones.

    On Sept 12, she went to St `s for the surgery. Before surgery, more x-rays were taken to make sure ( dont know why, was just told ``to make sure``. Anyway, the 2 largest ganglions shrank and the onconlogist and hematologist said the operation would be postponed. Probably the medication had something to do with the shrinking. I dont know. Right now she is being closely followed and has to see the doctors every 3 monts to make sure there are no adverse changes. we thank God every day for this miracle.

    The doctors at St `s told Kassy that she was sick and had cancer but they would take very good care of her. But what does an 11 year old really understand about cancer. She doesnt look sick and doesnt act sick. We are all so thankful.

    Sorry to hear this news. Thank you for sharing with us.
    That dentist was very thorough and it paid off. Dentists can detect head and neck type cancers.
    Glad to hear that the tumors shrank and she is doing o.k.

    Dental healthcare professionals aren't kidding when they say if they see odd things in clients' mouths, there could be health indicators that need medical attention for followup.
    Your family had swift handling for your gd#3's care-that is something to be grateful for. Thanks for sharing your story here.

    oh wow, that was some scary diagnosis for such a young girl to get ( and for your entire family to deal with ) .
    Her recovery after surgery and meds was such great news to get I am sure.
    I think now more people realize that dentists can really find medical issues just from a dental exam.
    All the best to your family @SnowFlakey

    @Snow Flakey, I'm so sorry I'm late, I don't usually look through the threads and I'm so sorry for the absolutely terrifying news your family received.

    It's so comforting to know that when a dentist checks us, they really know what they're looking for and to catch it on an x-ray was nothing short of miraculous!

    I hope and pray your little Granddaughter, under such wonderful care, will live, grow and thrive as she moves forward in her long and happy life. {{hugs}}
