Natalka-thanks for the update! You have obviously had many battles on many fronts! Good luck with taking all those wobbly steps! I'm totally in the dark about how all this started and why it progressed in such a debilitating way. Thank goodness your inner strength and the love of your family and the help of God has brought you through to where home visits are possible for you.

    Best wishes, friend!

    Hi, Nat!
Wow. No idea, as @avoncallingu mentioned, how all this started and what contributed to the battles and skirmishes you've been fighting! It sounds like you're under very good care from many disciplines to get you home before Christmas.
    I continue to keep you in my prayers, Nat, and hope you're safely tucked in at home very soon. {{{Hugs}}}

hip hip hooray for the update @Natalka !! I saw some very promising things in there about you not needing surgery, and having a certain bandage replaced with stockings. ( I'll admit I am not familiar with either of those but sounds like an upgrade! )
Oh and hugs to Milan for lending his phone to you so you can update us. The darn kitties hiding like that eh?
My son's cat is exactly like that, so we never get to see her when we visit him....just a flash of white fur as she dives under the bed and that is it. ha ha

Keep progressing and hope you will eventually get sprung from the hospital and be back home again.

So much to explain about how things started...
I had infections on my lower legs, they were strep, and got out of control even with dr visits and changes in antibiotics. Also had strep pneumonia which was horrid and hard to clear the fluid in my lungs, long after the shortness of breath was gone.
So I also wasn't sleeping as yes, less than my usual pitiful amount,my son figured about 45 minutes. Add to that not eating, and I was a mess.

The day I gave up I stood up from the can, fell down and couldn't get up. My husband couldn't help, so he called the paramedics who got me up then left. Our son came over and a few hours later I agreed to go to the hospital ER. Stayed overnight there til they got me a room 24 hrs later. During that time I saw a few specialists but frankly I was out of it..... I was in such pain and they had good drugs...

Diagnosis was weakness of limbs and no use of muscles due to extremely low potassium. That took a while to straighten out, months because I wasn't eating. Ok

I stopped because a maintenance dude is working at my bedside on a suction thingee and I didn't want to lose what I wrote.

My first weeks at the hospital were them clearing the pneumonia, and wound care nurses working on the legs... Which were horridly painful because they had to scrape, then put meds on, then wrap with cobands which is a bandaging system I had to keep on 24 hrs a day, and they were changed once a week.
My breathing was awful and I was on oxygen for weeks.
I was at the first hospital a month. Then moved on here to a convalescent unit of another hospital.
Even in the last two weeks I've gotten stronger and have more endurance.
However everything is compared to how things were the I came in.
I will not get back to how I was.... Regular me. Bummer.

I may get sprung next week; Friday I will try get into our van, talk about therapy, lol! A physiotherapist will be there to see if I can!

In other news than just me, me, me.... My sweet son broke his leg Sunday evening. Slipped on ice by his house. He's waiting for a surgery date because he needs some hardware.... Poor baby, and I can't mother him......

Husband is not back at work, was supposed to be Nov 1 but no go... Now on top of healing from that Aug surgery he's waiting to see a surgeon about a hernia he has developed..... Yeah, no dripping rain in our family. Just downpours!

That's it for now, I have hospital head and can't remember what else I wanted to explain.... I don't mind questions if I haven't covered stuff....

Love and hugs to you all!

Oh Natalka! What a challenge you and then your DH and now Milan have faced. I could just cry for you!
I think you have received the ultimate in care! I think it is a miracle that your legs were saved and that you conquered your pneumonia.

I will continue to pray for you. Thank-you for sharing your challenges with us.

I am hoping you do, in fact, get "sprung", as long as there is sufficient care available for all of you at home.

    Best wishes, my friend!

Jolly good that you overcame the strep in the legs, @Natalka -you have your legs intact! Ask sister or other relative to bring you a dish with some roasted garlic to keep the strep stuff down and out. Keeping your and your family in prayers and in mind--have you had visitors from church as yet to offer help to get things for you?
Hope Milan's landlords are feeling badly about his tumble enough to ensure the walk is kept clean and salted, plus help run him around on errands. He's not going to like his truck much with a broken leg to lean on.

    Well good golly miss Natalka!!!
I think an intervention is in order....group prayers, everyone!!

I wish I lived closer so that I could help out somehow now that I'm feeling better...bring you stuff, take a load off your DH..believe me, I know how much our Husbands want and can do for us, and I wished I could somehow have relieved him of his responsibilities. And now Milan?! How irresponsible for his landlord or whoever to not ensure all the tenants are safe to walk out the door!! Yes, for sure they had better watch after his needs...I hope they're scared of being sued enough to care!

As to your van, I had to use one of those folding step-stools to help me get into our van when the time came for me to do that roughly on my own. Even with help, the contortions one must go through are enough to bring tears of frustration! Those folding stools I think can be found at CT or HomeHardware...I hope it can help you out; it was a life-saver for me.
Milan might be better off living with you and your DH for a while and why does he have to wait for surgery?! That's horrible...I hope he's on the lovely drugs I was on for the 24hrs prior to my surgery. It took me 2 weeks to remember our DD stayed with me that night until I fell asleep...hahaha!!

I hope you have good homecare in place before you venture home, Nat...they should make sure everything is in good order and that you and your DH know when someone is going to visit for wound care and household duties.

Oh, heavens, Nat........what a lousy run of luck you and your family are having to go through right now. Just think of summer when this is all in the past...and how you'll all laugh, and laugh....well, at least we all hope so!!

How is your sleep now? Your eating habits? I hope you are eating again!

Continued rest when you can, working out at physio when you have to, and Honey, I hope you're home for Christmas!
    (gentle hugs...)

Just found out that Milan will have his surgery tomorrow, HERE at the same hospital where I am, a few floors down. My husband will go pick him up in the morning. Seems as though minimum stay for an ankle is three days depending on other stuff... He's young and a fast healer.

So, it looks like I'll be going home Tuesday... Some things are already in motion.

Lynn I'm eating very well, hospital food, some home food, some junk! Not everything tastes good or right, yet.
I've been on a sleeping pill since I've been in the hospital, very gentle one. I sleep at least five hours a night, interrupted though. I've gotten more sleep here than I've had in decades!
