I'm the type of guy (admittedly) that will take advantage of an exceptional deal, or a policy or loophole, etc. to my benefit. But it's all on the up-and-up as long as the store/company policy is clear and I'm playing by those rules. I'll debate SCOP with a clerk if it's clearly a SCOP issue... However, in this instance, I'd feel too guilty about keeping it and would have to think long and hard about the next time I go to make a purchase with that Sobey's card.
If this were me I would phone the store and explain the situation. Chances are they'll tell you to keep the card as an ACTUAL reward for bringing the mistake to their attention (and save you the inconvenience of coming back to the store). There might have been dozens of cards go out either at that store, or maybe THOUSANDS, corporate wide. You bringing it to their attention may result in you saving the company a HUGE amount in losses. That's how they'd see it, and an extra $25 to save them huge losses is easy to justify. Most importantly, if you admit the error, and you get to keep it, you can spend it with a clear conscience.
Or maybe yours was the only one and if they insist that you return it and get a $25 one, well, sure. Seeing as that's all you were expecting in the first place, then you're not at a true "loss". But again, you also have that clear conscience.
