Last year someone posted a free income tax program for low income individuals. Is that available this year?
yes :)
I posted this year's list of free programs in the freebie forum

those with low incomes can file by phone

For modest incomes and simple taxes, there are free clinics
check if you are eligible

Sometimes there are clinics via the public library at certain locations (times/dates).

Can also see if a local college has a business administration program doing a tax clinic (usually by appointment-might be hard to get a spot as it's popular with regular clients).
George Brown College had one for its students in the past, but I don't see current year information.
Seneca College has one for students. Might be worth asking if community can access it too.

City of Toronto has a list of places where you can book an appointment:

I like studiotax. Been using it for years.
Even Turbo Tax , their basic edition is FREE for all income groups. The basic edition is quite good & user friendly, but it doesn't baby sit you & guide you each & every step like the other editions.
But you don't really need that, if you have just some basic standard knowledge the basic Turbo Tax edition is all you need.
Of course you can use other software like Simple Tax, Studio Tax etc.
Usually I use 2 software - just to double check if the numbers tally & there are NO glitches. Shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes maximum to do each tax return with Software & NETFILE.
Within 10 days you will get your refund & Notice of Assessment after NETFILE.
I have been using Studio Tax for a good ten years, totally free. I shake my head when I see tax programmes being sold in stores - totally unnecessary. Each year I download StudioTax about early January. Filling it out is very simple, as is Netfiling. Within days I have my refund if one is due.
Don't make the mistake of thinking a free programme cannot be as good as a paid one. It's graphics and ease of use is the same. You can do up to 20 tax submissions per download, far more than the paid ones. The odd time I send a question to the publishers, getting an answer within hours.
When it comes to computer stuff, other than a VPN, I pay for nothing as there are great free programmes on the web for everything. Having said that, I happily make a $10 voluntary donation to Studio Tax every year because they are so good. NEVER pay for a tax prepartion programme.
I used free turbotax 2018...
It’s quick and it’s easy for me I didn’t have a printer at the time so i saved it to SD card. I did it March 1st and got my return March 11th, but i had access to the funds on Sunday March 10th in my bank account.
