Is it time to ban the handgun?

that is the title of today's cbc's cross country checkup,
as a person who lived a couple of blocks away from this awful
shooting, i'd answer yes, hell just as myself living anywhere, i'd say yes
to all guns, rifles etc. being banned

Toronto City Council overwhelmingly endorsed these motions after last Sunday's Danforth shooting.

I don't know why non law enforcement or non military citizens would need to have a semi automatic guns.
The person who did the shooting has diagnosed mental illness.
I think he probably obtained the weapon not through normal/legal gun purchase procedures. I don't know if he could have been stopped.

Unfortunately "Banning" handguns will probably not work as their is a black market for everything.That said,politicians will do so as it makes them look like they are doing something.Sadly these are the times we are living in.
