Aretha Franklin has passed away.

The Queen of Soul, and one of my favourite artists, has passed away from pancreatic cancer surrounded by family and dear ones just after 10:00 am this morning. The angel choir has one more voice! I'm sure Janice and Mama Cass and James Brown were waiting for her there. I am so sad on many levels!
She was 76.

I loved your post @Shwa Girl !! What a great way to describe that lovely soul!!
I cried watching Don Lemon last night as he cried while recalling some of his interactions with Aretha, some where he had interviewed her, others where he had attended her shows or was a guest at her b'day parties.
RIP Aretha.

She was talented. She did not have an easy life: first baby at age 12, next baby at age 14. She had 4 marriages I think. Many said that she was very nice to them when she came to perform and even spoke nicely to back stage people. She asked for performance payment in cash and one reporter said that she asked for the money to be counted out in front of her before she performed. Smart lady. Will be missed by many.
