Honestly I hadn't shopped at Canadian tire for a while. This week they had Wilton Baking pans on sale for $4 and change.
So I look at the sign and it says "80% off" ...I look at what the regular price is and it says "$23.99" ...I could see saying the regular price is something like $12 ...but $23 for 1 baking sheet!
And then I went to buy this 2 pack of water bottles for $14.99...the sign again says "80% off" ...I ask what the regular price was..cashier says it's regular price is $79.99 for 2 water bottles
Same thing...a basic frying pan was on sale $9.99...said "80% off" ...regular price said $69.99
I don't know if Canadian Tire thinks customers are stupid...where if they raise a price to an astronomical amount and then mark it down to a regular price they can say it's "80% or 85% off" and then people will purchase it. But I don't see why they have to raise the prices just to say it's a better "sale"This thread is currently associated with: Canadian Tire

Yup, I've noticed that too - the consumer needs to know their prices. Everyone once in a while Canadian Tire will have a TRUE deal but most of that stuff in the flyer is exactly that - inflated "regular" prices to make the sale seem fantastic.

ha ha I agree! @ilovecoupons23 I went there to grab a 10" cast iron Lagostina frying pan for my sister and the reg price said $89.99!! yeah it was $17.99 on sale which she said is an awesome deal but I wondered who in their right mind would ever pay over $90.00 for a frying pan?

Amazon does the same thing... and for some reason blog posts on this site about the alleged amazon "deals" fail to recognize what the item sells for regularly... not what the list price is.
tell me the list price is whatever you want... (say its; $200) -- but if you and every other retailer sell it regularly for $50... putting it on sale for $40 doesnt make it 80% off. It makes it 20% off the regular (read: 'usual') price.

I feel torn because part of me sees Canadian Tire as the quintessential Canadian store. I want to buy from Canadian retailers. But the other part of me thinks who is running this company??

CT has had 70-75% off the Lagostina Bianca cookware set for the better part of 2017 and 2018. Did the chain buy too much stocks or customers just are not interested in the product? I would not mind having half of one set, but I don't have cupboard space for a full set unless I could send the old cookware to the scrap metal dealer.
