Lamb for dinner tonight. Older son and DH love it. Me and younger not so much. But today I would say we really are making a difference in the freezer. Still planning to continue the eat from the pantry freezer challenge. I budget 650.00 a month for groceries and last month spent less that half. The one area that needs attention is dinners out and take out so the plan this month is to cut that to 105.00. I do have some gift cards we can use if I get desperate

Morning!! DS started semester 2 today and we had the smoothest start to school ever! He did ask me to check is the bus service was cancelled because it looked bad out lol (it was really foggy)
Whipped our lunches up and we will eat well this week.
My oldest turns 20 this month. I feel like I am way too young to have a 20 year old. He is flushed with cash from his new job (which is nice) so giving him money seems pointless. Need to think hard on what to get him that he wants/needs/will use etc. He really asks for nothing.
Have a great day!

I have a beef roast thawing for supper tonight. I’ll cook it with onion and garden carrots. We are out of potatoes, so I might just make frenchfries. We might do some baking before cooking the roast.
It has been been snowing since yesterday morning. It is small light flakes, but a lot of them. Dh has shoveled 3 times already and we’re still getting a bit more. Our one neighbour has a large driveway. They made a tall pile of snow on our front lawn, so I should maybe knock it down some because it is reducing my visibility when exiting my driveway. We like these neighbours, so it’s not a big deal. We received over 10cm of snow and more is forecast for today. Not good road conditions, especially on the highway. -23, -33 with the wind chill. I’m staying home with the kids today. It’s not supposed to warm up until next week.
Last week it was so cold that the pipes in our gymnastics building froze and it wasn’t warm enough to have their classes. We received raffle tickets to sell for their gymnastics fundraiser. I was glad that it was 1 book per family, not per child. My dad is buying 4 tickets. I sent the book to work with Dh to sell to his co-workers. They bring their kids’ fundraisers to work for everyone to support, by choice. The prizes for this raffle are valued at $350-$550 each, there are 4 prizes.Last edited by Angela273; Mon, Feb 4th, 2019 at 10:48 AM.

Does your oldest have his RRSP started? Maybe you can give him some tips on where to invest inside the RRSP given that he's "in the money" unless he is upgrading some things in his life (getting a car, changing phone or plan, pursuing travel or other goal). Then later in life if he buys a home or does the Life Long Learning Plan (after any RESP is used for post-secondary studies round 1) say in 10 or more years, he'll have something to draw down on for those future goals, then pay back his RRSP over the 20 years.
Has he considered doing a will and powers of attorney for himself? Would he let you and DH be his financial or health POAs in case he cannot sign a legal or financial document (say a broken writing arm) or need you to be his voice if he ever needs healthcare but is unconscious? If DS goes to post-secondary school, he needs to authorize you and DH to inquire about anything related to school before the institution would release any information. At least you have the discussions to see how aware he is of these legal issues and if he has made any decisions about them. Think of this is as helping him mature before his brain is mature at 24! Maybe he's ready to buy health insurance to supplement anything work provides through a benefit package (or will offer after a probation period)?Last edited by Ciel; Mon, Feb 4th, 2019 at 12:32 PM.

@Angela273 -if you could just swing into Ontario (Halton (i.e. Oakville and Burlington)and Peel Regions (i.e Mississauga and Brampton) for a couple of days to suss out teaching prospects during our snow melt/thaw of the past 48h, you'd be out of your windchill situation!
I don't miss most of last week's cold weather but am relieved any channel or shovelling I did has not led to meltwater around the house.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Dh texted to tell me that he sold 3 raffle tickets and another person promised to buy on Thursday. We had a total of 10 tickets when we started.
One load of laundry has been folded and put away, I washed and dried it last night. I spent some time calling companies for coupons this morning. I like getting fun stuff in the mail.
I’ve started working on teaching applications for the 2019/20 school year. Some school divisions have application deadlines this week and next. Some school divisions aren’t ready for new applicants for the next school year.Help me out with Swagbucks and we can both earn gift cards and PayPal money

Just cleaned out my purse...it needed it badly. Moved a bunch of giftcards in my wallet to make sure I use them up. Called into Loblaws to see what the balance was on the GC from the bread scandal and I have .20 cents left on it lol. Found $50 in $5 bills I had tucked away. I put it back there since I didn't miss it and now know I have emergency cash is needed.
Put all the loose coupons in an envelope and will put in my shopping bag. Happy to see the stayfree coupons were $2 off (I was thinking they were only $1 off) and I have a PC personal offer and they are on sale this week at RCSS so will stock up for sure since I am officially out of the kind I like and have been for months (been using free ones I got awhile ago but I don't love them).

Saturday evening-a relative visited and let's say some Groundhog Day situation happened that involved buying 24 cans of beer for someone who's not to drink it. And Mom provided the cash for purchase (but she said nothing to relative about not buying beer nor indicating getting a small quantity of beer-she was shocked at the $45 spend)...I need to see the Bill Murray movie. So in lieu of pouring the Coors Light beer down the drain, I resolve to use it in cooking. Yes, Mom knows to never let that happen again and I'm to do the shopping if she ever wants money spent without care... (not that I'd carry 24 cans of any beer home-too heavy and I'd rather tote pop in a cart). I had gone to Value Village after supper to try women's tops (2 I wanted had been sold since Saturday) so in the end, I remembered a men's dress shirt I liked and used my $2 off survey coupon to buy it. Have it laundered and awaiting my seam ripper to alter the garment. Found a shirt pattern I have that might work with the fabric.
<BTW, Value Village will have 30% off women's department items on Wed for Super Savers club members!>
Beyond beer can chicken (have the device for it) and a chili in a slow cooker, are there casseroles or stews (hopefully not with cheese please) or scalloped potato dishes that can use beer? Or baked beans with spices and beer?
I had one lousy beer bread recipe from last year. Mom has an oil cake using beer but not much of it for one batch.
Chicken, turkey or beef recipes using beer are appreciated. Baked goods are doubly appreciated (I'm thinking pretzel buns or pretzels of some kind but coffee cakes, buns, squares are welcome)!
Sunday-what a melt-off of snow and I stayed home. The outdoor sunflower seeds got more interest from squirrels. Bit of slippery ice on walks in the morning. Mid-afternoon, a headache came along after I did some sorting of recipes and clippings. Napped for 3h-good thing as I was reading after midnight and come around 1am, I started doing the laundry. Why? The heat was on and I knew today would be mild temperature-wise (so no heat was likely to be on at 8am though it came and went, I noticed) and I was not sleepy. And Dad's laundry had piled up over the two nights, so it was best to get laundry washed and done so Mom could focus on some writing she needs to do today (at least she had a good sleep). For some reason after supper, I thought to look through baking cupboard supplies and found expired instant yeast packets and vanilla pudding mixes plus an extract and old vanilla extract bottle Dad bought some years ago-all got binned. We have lots of other vanilla extract bottles and I realized we still had some jarred dry yeast so no need to buy more for a week.
This morning, most laundry was at least half-dry and then finished in the dryer while I had breakfast. Warmed up the last of the Pillsbury pizza pops and frozen breaded fish fillets for breakfast. Have a little more room in freezer. Will heat the last of the chicken tenders (from M&M Foods, bit moister but softer than Jane's Pub versions) for supper tonight. Plan to get some canned beans from Sobey's-Compliments brand is on sale for 99 cents and I do love those beans (plus the Tin Can Cook recipe for veggie burgers needs a can of kidney beans).
One of my clippings from January happened to show a casino bus ad. The trip is usually $15 and gets a person a $10 casino credit. So I'm pleased the upcoming trip (sponsored by a local company) will be free for me plus there's a buffet credit included along with the $10 credit, once I get the card. Will have to add those values to my February Other money list.
Evening plans include a mug or two of tea, seam ripping and some stitching and staying out of the wet (rain forecast). Hopefully, I avoid any more laundry or manage to put it off until tomorrow.
Tomorrow, will try to get my health card photo done as most of the moisture will be frozen or close to frozen. Will look for coupons at other Fortinos stores as well plus collect the free Harvey's burger.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

I just called Driscoll’s. There have been a lot of people on the berry survey panel, which is why they downgraded the coupon value. She told me that we are not supposed to print 2 coupons from each survey link. If people are found to be doing this they can be permanently banned from the berry survey panel. So here’s our warning.
