Washing machines , agitator or no

I am in a position where I have to buy a portable washing machine ,My only experience is with the type with an agitator .I am wondering about the non agitator types . Do they wash as well or better? Would really appreciate Any advice or suggestions particularly of someone that has used both .

Will see if my best friend has any advice as prior to the laundry pair being installed a few years ago, the family made do with a portable machine that was set up for use on the main floor. I don't know if there is an agitator or not in the portable unit.

I have one I was the same was at first thinking jut how will it wash the clothes
But I love it now so much more room and the edges and bottom have a few grooves to help with the turning if the clothes
Fyi I between I had a front loader nope never again
I'm old school I love my top loader even with no agitator
