What do you pack in your Child's Lunch?

I have always done healthy lunches for my soon to be 12 year older, with a mix of veggies,fruit,grain,drink ,treat and usually a sandwich or soup and bread.

Lately I think my son has hit a food hump. He is autistic so this doesn't help much. He will be on one food heavy one month then hate it another. The only things he absolutely will not eat at lunch are raw cheese,bologna and ranch dressing. Anything else is fair game, but I want to come up with more inventive ideas for lunch. He eats like a growing pre teen, so something filling that will sustain him and not boring but also within budget and time.

What do you put in your child's lunchbox?

@ Go Jays Yeah me too, even earlier ,but I can't trust my son to make a good lunch yet. The one he made had a sandwich and an apple. That would not sustain him for a full day. He still needs help as he is autistic. I get calls of him being hungry when he doesn't pack well.

Ahh, I didn't know he was autistic. How about you cook up cheese quesadilla the night before? Or when you're making meatloaf, make some extra and cook it in muffin tins. Try scrambled eggs in muffin tins with various mix-ins - ham, peppers, cheese.. whatever your son likes. Both of my kids like taking leftover pancakes the next day. Pasta salads with chopped vegetables and hard boiled eggs mixed in. I just had an egg cooked in a muffin tin and I used a couple of slices of deli turkey as the liners. Salt and pepper. Delicious. Think ahead when making dinner, how can you modify it to make it lunchbox-friendly? You know what he will and won't eat but ask his opinion - what would he like? Good luck

The scrambled eggs and pasta salad i never thought of. Good ideas. My son loves scrambled eggs and any kind of salad, and he has microwaves at school so i will try that. thank you for your tips. a plain sandwich and fruit tends to get old, especially with him.

veggie sandwiches with a serving of fruit juice and a handful of nuts. Been trying a combination of stuff to really see what he likes most. By far, this is the only combination which he seems to finish everyday.
