CRA , Netfile opens on Monday 24, 2020.

Every year they seem to be opening later and later. So even if you have all your tax slips and are ready to go, you will have to wait till February 24, 2020 for Netfile.

Paper forms & booklets should be available by first week of February in Library, Canada Post outlets in SDM, Service Canada locations etc.

Last year 2019, NETFILE opened on
    February 18, 2019.

In 2018, I think it was even earlier than that.
    ---------------

My Timeline for 2020 year -

    March 5 (Thursday) - Netfiled

March 16 (Monday) - NOA available online and Direct Deposit of Refund in the bank.

Canada Post employee showed me the 2020 poster saying no paper tax packages will be distributed this year via post offices. Only taxpayers who filed paper returns will get them by mail.

However a CRA friend of mine said there will be one push of paper packages via post offices.
Wish there was a way to get the final word on what will happen.

Last year, CRA opened tax processing the day after Family Day.

    By mail

If you filed your 2018 tax return on paper, you should receive a 2019 Income Tax Package in the mail. If you want to file on paper and didn’t receive an Income Tax Package, you can order a copy from the CRA.

    In person

A limited quantity of tax packages will be available in both official languages at Canada Post, Service Canada, and most Caisse populaire Desjardins outlets starting February 18, 2020.

It has never occurred to me to visit Service Canada for tax packages! The local one is really a bit of trek-on Upper James St. at Rymal Rd. I think the packages are more likely to appear in major cities and not anywhere else.

88% filed electronically last year , and only 12% filed by paper.

I think your first return ever you have to fike by paper and can't file electronically. So lot of new immigrants to Canada and first time filers who have just turned 18 ( or whatever the age limit is ) might be in the 12% who have filed by paper.

This year I won't be surprised if the 88% electronic returns go beyond 90%!

Parents of post-secondary students-if your students still live at home with you (during school year or otherwise live with you after each semester) and likely intend to transfer their tuition amounts to your tax returns, remind the students to keep checking their school student portals for tax slips (T2202A)--schools post them by Feb.28 and the students must print them off at own cost.

Your Notice of Assessment date i.e NOA date is also the date on which your refund will be directly deposited in your bank.

So if your My Account says NOA will be available on March 15, direct deposit in the bank will also be on the same day.

My NOA date is Feb. 27. So I'll check with ATM/bank that day then apply funds towards property tax installment due this week.

Depending on the bank you should have the DR in the morning or in the evening.

Some banks it shows up as early as 7.30 AM.

ATM check at 9:30am today-no credit! Went to teller and she confirmed no credit in my account. I'll open my account online and watch it. First time I've been so disappointed. At least I bought my Dr. Pepper 6pk at Food Basics first, so I have some consolation.I'll be very irked if the funds don't appear by noon...

*Update: have checked my account online (CRA-claims credit issued! plus my bank one) twice since 1:30pm and *crickets*. Sent a tweet to CRA asking if there is any issue with payments today.
