I read somewhere that Ford was teary eyed and apologized for the restrictions. Like, are you kidding me! He should be teary eyed because of all the people who died!. Anyway. I also heard that all elective and non essential surgeries are being postponed. Heaven help everyone who is waiting for TKR or cancer surgeries.
Nothing much to report here. Infections holding steady at about 1200 per day in QC. Hospitalizations are up. Seems like all the measures in place in QC seem to be working. Hopefully this continues.

Here is a link to what Ford is saying now

Kind of feel like Ontario is going in circles. I am kind of confused on how some choices are being made. Although I qualify for a Vaccine I have not been able to book one as there are only 2 clinics covering my bracket and they never have appointments. But the local clinic closest to me has been deemed a "Hot Spot Clinic" even though we do not live in a "Hot Spot" and the closest Hot Spot is 45 minutes away. Everyone keeps saying we need to limit mobility and people travelling even within the province but now you have people coming from "Hot Spot" to a non "Hot Spot" to get vaccinated.
Yesterday when I checked our local clinic there were hundreds of open spots.2022 is going to be my year, the year I find organization in my life and the year I focus on myself,

My wife had her 2nd Pfizer dose yesterday morning. 21 days after the first. No side effects whatsoever after the 2nd dose. Glad she is sorted for now.

Doug Ford is the guy that was never respected by anyone in the Conservative party. He is desperate for approval from anyone who will pay attention and has some sway.
This is why he is bending over backwards trying to get corporates and other business people to pay him some attention. He knows that the only ones who will are the ones who are themselves shady. racetrack owners, casino owners, factory owners, etc. places that have given no regard to the desperate people who are employed by them.
Take away sick pay. privatize health care, shred all environmental, ecological protection, privatize education, keep the gambling money flowing... those are his priorities during the pandemic. In 2020 I had 100 FREE Grocery pickups! Subscribe to PC Optimum Insiders & get 25,000 PC Optimum pts

Another variant to worry about now, and its a double mutation. I think that means that it mutated from a mutation. Does that make any sense. And apparently its more contageous and more deadly.

Canceling flights from mutation hot spots, this is a needed step.

On 25 March 2021, The BMJ hosted a webinar on new variants. An expert panel discussed what these are, where they come from, and what they might do, as well as what we know about how particular variants influence transmission, severity, and immunity, and what this means for the future of the pandemic. Nikki Nabavi and Juliet Dobson report
.....".......How variants affect vaccine efficacy and implications for policy
Akiko Iwasaki from Yale University in the US, discussed vaccine efficacy for variants of concern. She shared unknowns such as the fact that some variants can cause reinfection, but we do not have enough data to confirm the extent of this. Some variants (E484K, L452R) seem to reduce vaccine efficacy and pre-existing natural immunity, so we do not know whether T-cell responses are sufficient to protect against the variants of concern. Variants of concern may also increase host range and resistance from interferon...".......

So does all this mean that the vaccines that we are getting now wont work againt the new variants....

I think that the article suggests less effectiveness of vaccines, not ineffectiveness.
Also, antibodies may be less effective in neutralizing the virus.Last edited by HermanH; Sat, Apr 24th, 2021 at 02:12 PM.

Canada has already committed to booster shots of Pfizer vaccine for 2022, 2023 and an optional 2024 extension.
Studies are showing a booster shot will be needed yearly just like getting a flu shot. One for antibodies and two to combat new variants.2022 is going to be my year, the year I find organization in my life and the year I focus on myself,

Some studies have shown that depending on the vaccine, its efficacy can be still very good against some of the variants and lesser against others. As @SassyAshley pointed out, at least for Pfizer, the booster shots will be a double as they will (like a flu shot) provide ongoing coverage and also provide coverage against the modified strains. This is just like the flu shot which changes every year as the flu variants change. It will be the same approach I suspect.
