1 more extra month to file your taxes.
If you owe taxes and need to pay CRA, even that deadline has been extended by 1 month.
The deadline to pay off any outstanding balances interest-free will also be extended by a month, to July 31.This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Will temp. CRA staff hired for tax time be given an extra month of work to help catch up with processing of returns?

Now even the CERB corona - Canada Emergency Response Benefit has to be applied through CRA, not Service Canada EI.
So I guess that will put more pressure on CRA. Applications start Monday, April 6.
Get your taxes done before that. It's going to be a gong show starting next week.
1,300 staff from other departments have been transferred to handle this CERB and regular EI benefits.
As neatly 2 million people lost their jobs because of Covid.

Taxes are done. Sending signatures to the accountant and he will submit on Monday/Tuesday. Will not pay balance owing until August 2020. He did a great job and amounts we owe are much less than we expected! All good! Also nice to be getting the GST/HST payments regularly and also the Ontario payments regularly. All goes to the alcohol fund! LOL

I'd advise anyone capable of doing their own tax return or paying someone to do it to do so by April 30. Because if you are eligible for GST, Child Benefits, OTB and other credits, the new payment cycle begins in July. Otherwise, your credits will start/reset about 6-8 weeks after filing if you wait past April to file your personal tax returns.

Get your taxes done TODAY - Sunday if you can.
Starting tomorrow -April 6 - CRA will be really really busy with ALL those CERB - Covid applications going through CRA. Probably 2 Million + people will apply for them. They have staggered the application dates according to DOB, but the servers can crash or can be really very slow 🐌 from tomorrow.

“I haven't, however, had much luck getting CRA over the phone for other inquiries,” Burley said in an email. “Many CRA departments are basically shuttered for now, as CRA concentrates its resources on emergency support. Filing deadlines for almost everyone have been lengthened. People should still contact their accountants or tax preparers, but remotely, to have their taxes done as they would every spring.”
Burley said it’s important to note that taxpayers don't have to have filed their 2018 or 2019 taxes to access the CERB. But for increased benefits other than the CERB – like the enhanced GST/HST credits or enhanced Canada Child Benefits – residents must ensure they’ve filed their 2018 returns (for the period the government already topped up) and their 2019 returns (for benefits related to the period starting July 1, 2020). “Even though the government has given longer for most of us to file, they won't start paying your credits and benefits for the second half of 2020 until your 2019 return is processed,” Burley explained.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Yeah lot of people are going to get screwed up on their July, 2020 to June, 2021 credits and benefits, if they don't file their 2019 income taxes soon.
Or even if they file them and it's not processed/assessed by CRA by June 30, 2020.
Lot of backlog there as staff is mostly working from home and has been diverted to
CERB related payments and barely processing regular IT returns.

Only 15 days left.
If you get GIS you won't be cut off from GIS. You have until October 1 till they cut you off from GIS for non filing of taxes. You will get GIS till October 1 even if you don't file by June 1.
Rest of the benefits which go from July, 2020 to June, 2021, you might have issues, if you don't file by June 1.
