August 2020 Frugal Chatter Thread

good morning. very quiet at my house today. i have 2 kids. thinking a nice walk this am . right now we are using blocks to make dinosaur houses :)

i keep thinking about fall, and what i want to get done in order to prep teh house for winter. i feel like this will be a hard one

my garden is a epic disaster . i am very not pleased. my latest ... the straw i had been given , had mice in it. i did not know this, and i am sure they did not as well. ... they ate most of my potatoes... and now i have at least 8 mice in my backyard... yes. i saw them and counted. ... sigh... big sigh....

ok. need a bit of fresh air and good vibes. :)

I hate mice, we had them a couple of times in our house, once in our dinning room and the second time in the basement.

Turns out we thought we had cleaned up int he basement but have now discovered they were living in another area we will now need to scrub down.

Oh how I cannot wait for the whole basement to be clean and I can scrub it from top to bottom with bleach, then I will feel better and my OCDs can calm down. Right now everytime I go in the basement internally I freak out and just want to toss everything in the garbage but that is not realistic there are areas we have found no signs of mice and are fine. Plus most of what they go into just needs to be cleaned off with bleach. Luckily the Stockpile room has been cleaned so it is safe area.

Went to sobeys this morning spent $101 got 129 airmiles everything was on sale plus i found a live clean hand soap 3.99 limit 1 -i would have loved 2 but hey thats life .

Bought my neighbour a $25.00 gift card for canadian tire for him letting us use his pool ,thought it was a nice thing to do .We have been in the pool about 7 times for an hour to 2 hour time frames with the grandkids .

My great find for the day at dollarama found the last one a nice bath mat (very small) with a rubber feel to the back and plush for my main floor toilet 4.00.

Got the hydro and water bill $50 more than last month -goodness we do pay for the central air and of course we have watered our plants a bit more,so dry this month .At least i have hung out almost every load on the line maybe used the dryer 3 times .

listed 3 items for sale. 1 for middle child, and 2 for me. i have 1 sale pending. hoping to post 2 more this week. goal is 5 items for sale. :)

Maxi: got 6000 pc points on a 40$ order so not bad I will have 10$ redemption next time.

Good Morning everyone! Sunny day here today. And garbage day yippeeee. Hope they take the blinds that are in the bin. They were falling apart and need to be replaced so I finally took them down and trashed them!

Nothing got done at home last night since I went with my guy for the drive while he was working. Quality chat time! So tonight I need to get at it while both kids are at work and have a quiet house.
Laundry and cleaning the dining room (my work at home space). Now that I have moved my stuff I'm selling to the garage I can sparkle up the dining room.

I had spotted the sale Friday night and purchased an Olsen Europe top just under 50% off and a silk scarf that also qualified for the extra 20% off weekend deal. My box showed up yesterday morning before lunch--that must be some kind of record!

What was happening with yesterday's rains-the ones around 2pm-the first light slow rain did have tiny hail and the later rain had small popcorn kernel size hail. Just before 6pm, a soaking rain (the kind I thought was in the forecast) came. I was reading my Ikea catalogue during the early afternoon rains, then had to take a nap. Was pleased that I managed to finish the grasscutting in the morning and have most of my laundry (slung on late morning after I cut the nearby grass first) dry before the first rain. There was a big rainbow visible after 6:15pm too in the southeast-lovely to see in the gloomy sky before clouds came along to erase it.

Today-am doing some online surfing (the connection to the dvd player is working so I'm using it), have to put a small grocery list together as we are out of too many things, and get my library items ready for library visit. Love this cooler weather-I feel like I can get things done!

Will see if I find any new coupons at Fortinos as the ones on the board have been there for 2-3 weeks.

morning -nice you got a few items from the bay ceil -i noticed a lot of their flash sale and clearance items are final sale ,so that in itself deters me from buying .

I just noticed the email i got from simons is now free shipping when you spend $50.00 or more .So i may not shop from them as much well see.

Off to a toy shop today a used toy shop of older toys i have a few items to sell them ,and i know i may make more if i sold on kijiji but i am sure people would want to check the glass items carefully and try items out.During covid this would be hard to do,so i would rather take the items to this store plus its local.I will let you know how i did later .

Remember that deal on the canned gravy last year? I think it was .69 cents a can and receive 500 pc pts back per can. I had stocked us up. And the in-laws twice.
Well we only like the mushroom gravy so I posted a huge bag full for sale and it was sold on the weekend. Now I have a huge empty space in my cupboard which I am happy about. Figured it was best to get rid of it now since it didn't expire till next year and now someone is happy with their stock up :)

No matter how clean your basement is, you can still get mice. With 3 cats, I still put down traps and every couple of days find one dead in the trap. You need to figure out where they are coming from and seal that spot in the wall/ceiling.

Funny story, they were coming in through our Kitchen, turns out the previous owner needed some drywall for something so he cut a large whole behind the stove. When we had some water damage repaired they also fixed this spot.

I realize they may still find a way in *knock on wood* they don't but just knowing they were there I want to scrub the whole area. I did the same in the Dining Room and Stockpile room, once I had it clean I scrubbed it from top to bottom and just makes me feel better.

Afternoon -well we went to the retro toy store

I made $40.00

I sold 4 star wars glasses from burger king from many years ago i made 20.00 and i never even bought them .
I sold some metal hot wheels or corgi cars made 20.00 on them from the 70's and 80's

Of course i did buy godzilla for sebastian -he is small and has movable legs and arms reg 20.00 but he gave it to me for $15.00 as i sold some stuff to them .

So i was happy with my sale/purchase

I’ve been busy going through kids clothes this week. Ds has outgrown a lot of clothes, which Input into a bin for twin boy to grow into. Twin girl tried on all of the clothes in her dresser and 1/2 of them were too small on her. She tried on a bin of clothes that I had for her and 3/4 of it fits her now. I posted and sold the small clothes today. I also sold 2 smaller kids blankets. $63 in sales today. Everyone was happy with their purchases.

edit: I just sold another $20 by e-transfer, for pick up tomorrow.
