Royal Canadian Legion & Veterans Day
In September of this year my branch of the Legion closed due to lack of funds to stay open. It was a sad sad day for all the members. Covid-19 hit hard; no more activities, no more hall rentals, no more anything! And this year was the first year that i didnt attend the Veterans Day ceremony. Over the years, our Legion and the womens auxiliary welcomed people from the American Legion across the border in Vermont and New York States to commemorate the war of 17 something (dont remember the dates). We welcomed weddings, new years parties, valentines day parties. But all that has not closed for us. What a shame! The Fed govt announced the other day that it will be giving money to the Legions to help them survive but it is too late for ours.
And today is especially poignant. As i watched the ceremony on TV, i remembered all the veterans who were members here; all those who have passed and all those who are still here, sadly not enough of them. Hearing Taps always makes me cry and i remember the war stories my parents told me (they were both in Europe).
