How does your home phone work? ++

We just switched our services(tv/home phone) to teksavvy and their home phone works in such a way that first of all, when you call 911 an operator answers, and you give them your address, THEN they connect you to 911..

Also, if your power goes out your home phone goes out. And, if your internet goes out your home phone goes out as well.Me not like..I'm sorry, to me it sounds unsafe..emergency means quick! and always have emergency line available, even during power/or internet outage.

I wanted to know from everyone here:
1) how is your telephone line connected?(is it through internet)
2) Does your telephone line work in power outages?
3) During emergencies when you call 911, do you speak directly with 911 or an operator to first confirm your address first?

im with Ooma...so i think it works the same as teksavvy. connected via cable...if internet goes out so does the phone.

but im ok with that b/c hubby & i each have cell phone. before Ooma we were with cogeco but i was sick of paying $40- a month for a land line.

When I looked into VoIP phone service last year, it was very easy to find out that there are differences compared to a regular land line. I would have been okay with those differences for the same reason in the post above; we have a mobile phone.

While I didn't switch, it was for another reason. I kept the land line because the best deal I found was by bundling it together with internet and TV.
