Since a local tv station took a tour of 4 Northern Ontario locations this week (staycation, anyone?), I wanted to post a link to the Staycation credit for 2022 that Ontario residents can claim next year for their 2022 Income Tax returns (planning ahead is good for money matters).

If you do go to another community to visit, you might want to see if your planned expenses will be allowed for claiming the credit.

It's been about two months since the credit was announced. Now that the weather is mostly hot, even if gas prices are dear, there will be people going for daytrips and longer stays. Be prepared.

Burlington will start adding a 4% tourism tax as of Oct.1 to accommodation stays.
Half of the revenue will go to the Tourism Burlington entity to do promotions and other half will go to the City of Burlington to be used on tourism-related activities including wayfinding (i.e. signage).

Don't forget to keep receipts if doing a fall staycation in Ontario for next year's income tax claims!

Friendly last week of December reminder to Ontario SCers who did Ontario staycations this year-keep your receipts bundled with your 2022 income tax papers. This is the only year you will be able to apply for this credit. It has not been extended into 2023.
