Disconnecting old washer/dryer and haul away

Hi,
I am planning to buy
a new washer dryer this black friday. I live in a townhouse with the washer dryer (stacked) setup on the 1st floor.

I dont really have the skills to disconnect my existing washer/dryer. know the water supply to the washer can be turned off but I am not sure how to disconnect the dryer

It seems most stores expect the appliance to be already disconnected for the haul away service they include. I didn't find any store which provides a service to disconnect haul away and connect the new washer dryer even for a fee. Can you plz suggest someone who would do this for a reasonable fee in and around GTA

What about donating the old set to a Restore or a charity? Perhaps checking first if they can disconnect the set for you.

It's probably due to fact that the appliance handlers that do the delivery are not necessarily licenced for electrical or gas hookups. They just deliver and take away.
I say this as when the last gas stove was purchased and delivered, the bill said something about getting a licenced gas technician to do the hookup. My brother did it because he
knew how (likely from our late father, as when the flooring was redone in 80s, the old stove had to be moved to replace the flooring in that area).

I'd canvass your neighbours and friends that have handy skills. There may even be a handy person service operating in your area that will do it for a fee; if you are a senior, there many be a Seniors for Seniors handy franchise in your region. Don't forget to vacuum the appliance area after the disconnection when stacked unit is pulled out.

When I was looking at washers/dryers in stores in 2018, salesperson in one hardware store told me it's a requirement to replace the washer hoses every 5 years. I was stunned. Had hoped to reuse the old hoses (20+ yr old and rubber with metal fittings) but the hoses now are a corrugated metal and ARE SOLD SEPARATELY (what a money grab). Anyway, the old hoses were taken away with the old washer.

You require a licenced gas technician to disconnect and connect gas lines because of the risk of gas leak (that could kill you or blow up your house) house insurance ( if Ins. company find out about unlicenced work they can and will refuse your claim and drop you). etc. Gas lines are never to be "played" with. It does suck about the cost of such work, but better to be safe.

My brother and late father were often keen to do away with hiring licensed techs to do gas hookups or disconnections. Since they had the $$, they usually decided when to spend that money. I understand your point about insurance. I am wondering how insurers verify that homeowners replace washer hoses every 5 years. Actually, I am considering telling my brother to inquire what is the wait time for buying new hoses if they are not in stock now. They'll be required next June.

At least brother got a licensed plumber for the hot water heater turn-on and to check all the radiators after the old heater sprung a leak and had to be replaced with new heater two years ago. Friend of brother's helped with installation and bringing it home. I got to cut down the box.
