My Shell station gave me 31x subs, sandwiches, and wraps to keep out of landfill. To wash them all down, I also got 2x 2-litre jugs of milk. Everyone I met, got fed.

I’m so sorry about your mom’s passing @lizzie bargain . 93 is a wonderful age that most don’t see but it’s still never enough. We’re not meant to lose our loved ones at any age. Biggest hugs to yo7 and the family

    Good Morning Everyone,
I woke up this morning and scared myself. I slept so hard last night I woke up this morning and had no idea what day it was an thought I was late for work and couldn't remember where I was working today, which I am not, it is Saturday.

I was up early this morning and honesty, spent a lot of time trying to convince myself I really did not want to defrost my Stand-up freezer. I kept trying to tell myself I could do it next weekend but I am also trying to break the habit of I will do it later so off I went.

It actually did not take that long, usually it takes an hour or two even with the hot water method to defrost it. I went down for the first water change at about 20 minutes and it was good to go. Since it went so quickly I let it sit for a bit to air dry and then wiped it out.

Not going to lie I should have been done super early and quick but putting everything back I started to get frustrated and that slowed down the process. There are things in there that we aren't eating and I keep asking about them and getting told they will be eaten but sure enough next time I clean the freezer they are still there. I wouldn't mind if say we had 5 bags and only used 2 or 3 but none of it is getting used.

As much as I hate food waste, there were a few things I decided to throw out. There were a few soups that we aren't eating so those went. Plus there were a couple bags that were the original packaging and not sucker sealer and were froste bit, so out those went.

I also brought up a few things to defrost and see if they are still good as they look like they might be seperated, Mom can look at those when she gets up.

Next I need to tackle the freezer in the kitchen but now sure if that will happen today. It is getting quite warm so we shall see.

    Happy Saturday Everyone.

    Good Morning Everyone,
Super slow morning here, I slept it, it was wonderful but I always miss the quiet of early morning before the chaos starts when I sleep in. It is a catch 22, I know my body needs the sleep but then I miss the quiet time before the day starts.

I did not get much done after posted yesterday as the storms started to roll in I started to get a weather headache so I relaxed on the couch and watched some TV and then did some work on my budget. I keep falling behind on my budget, I am not overspending actually the opposite I am underspending but I think next month I will add this to my weekly tracker to keep on top of it instead of playing catch up.

Still have a few more things to add to the budget for this month but looks like we will come in under budget again this month. I set some $$$ aside for when Chicken Breast goes on sale (I thought it would be this weekend but it wasn't, hoping for next weekend) so that will move forward. As well there were a few other things I held off buying figuring I would grab them when I came back for Chicken. Also groceries in general, I have some extra $$$ which is nice so next time I see some good sales I can stock up.

The storms missed us, we got some rain, a little thunder and some lighting but that was it.

Today is prep day, I am trying to talk myself into getting started but so far still struggling to get going.

    Happy Sunday Everyone.

good morning all. We'll see how frugal I can be after chiro and doing a small top up shop. DH will be with me so not expecting the OOP
will be low. lol The guys were on holidays this past week so we never bought the usual produce that they take in for their work meals.
Seems when they are home they don't reach for the healthier veg and fruits. When its packed in their lunch bags they are the poster boys
    for nutritional choices!

@walkonby , your comment about your DH going with you and a low OOP made me laugh.

I was at a work lunch a couple of weeks ago and many of my co-workers were saying how different there grocery shop is if their Husbands go with them. Things fall into the cart, less looking at price tags or needing something super specific (specific products or brands where is if it was them shopping they aren't quite as specific).

Although one did says her husband is obsessed with Flip and price matching but that means they have to go to 3+ different stores, as there are things we needs at Metro (who won't price match), then they go to No Frills so he can Price Match, but there are things No Frills doesn't carry so they have to go to RCSS to get the rest of his Price Matches and then depending on his mood since they were at RCSS they might as well pop into Sobeys.

Not having a Husband my contribution was about when Mom would shop and she would shop the sales but come home without Milk, Bread, Yogurt, the staples so then I would end up going grocery shopping again the next day for the staples.

I think that most men regard grocery shopping as a chore; necessary, but a chore, nonetheless, to be completed as quickly as possible. Therefore, they might tolerate higher prices or different brands in the name of speed and efficiency.

I can certainly empathize with those who are obsessed with maximization of saving, but I think that someone wanting to visit multiple stores needs to address the time lost in travel between stores and additional shopping time in multiple locations. Spending an additional $5 in gas and 40 mins in search and purchase simply cannot equate to saving $2 in products. Unless the inconvenience is minimal, I just choose the 'best savings fit' store.

Your shopping trip with your DH sounds just like my shopping trips with my DH.

    Good Morning Everyone,
Hope all in Ontario are staying cool.

I went out last night to take out our garbage and I can only imagine that is what walking into an oven feels like.

I could not imagine not having the AC units.

I got my ingredient prep done but the other prep did not happen. I am really struggling with my prep and finding things Mom will eat, I do not know if it is getting older or always being in pain but I find she has become more picky about her foods. I always offer to prep for her but she keeps telling me "I cannot tell you what I will want, we will have to wait and see."

Originally my plan was to make a bunch of salads so we had sides and just needed a protein but will she eat the salads or will I end up trying to eat them before they go bad. Maybe I am overthinking it and I should have just done it and seen what happened.

Thinking tonight will either be Burgers or Chicken with a Balsamic Salad, we will see how we feel a bit later in the day. Mom mentioned burgers a couple times last night but it seemed like a lot of work so instead we made dumplings with homemade fried rice.

Will see what I can tackle today, that is the only thing with the portable units they cool areas but now the whole house so need to stay where it is cool.

    Happy Monday Everyone.
