Hi Everyone,
I was just reading on the Toronto Star this story:
http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...afety-net?bn=1
It breaks my heart! I wish childrens aid would get their stuff together so this doesn't happen to another child. It makes me sick that people who don't want children can have them no problem, and others who are great people who would be great parents sometimes have a difficult time having one, or even adopting one!
Thanks for reading. This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by saveadollardiva; Wed, May 2nd, 2012 at 12:05 PM.

It is heartbreaking, but I imagine it happens a lot in cases where the family chooses the guardians - they assume if the family is ok with it, they must be ok

^ Ya but look at the family history at least! The mothers was a addicted to drugs, so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

It makes my heart break when I read of stories like this. Innocent children are hurt everyday, when will it stop! Unfortunately the laws that are created to protect the children also cause a lot of red tape that must be followed in order to save them, very frustrating!

^ It makes me sick to read stuff like this! I know alot of people who want to be parents and try and try and get have one or have issues/red tape adpoting! and then people who are just monsters have them and then when they can't look after them they give them to people who are just even more crazy then them.

So sad Unfortunately, as there are 4 children's aid societies that operate in Toronto proper - the regular CAS, a Native one, a Catholic one and a Jewish one if I remember right (plus many more in the GTA), there are sometimes issues with jursidiction or confusion about who is looking after what. The CAS system is undergoing a big overhaul; I am sorry that it's happening too late to help Katelynn but pray that it can prevent this kind of tragedy in the future.

There are four different societies? No wonder children fall through the cracks. There should be one society. They need to set CLEAR guidelines and they need to make sure that the rules are being followed.
I hope the judge that allowed the girl to be put where she was and the workers that did nothing all are held accountable for their bad judgement. They are suppose to be there to know better and protect these children.

Absolutely horrid! There are way too many of these stories...
One case currently concluded in SK - grandparents were looking after their daughter's daughter - who was a druggie. They got custody of the child when she was two.
The grandparents were just sentenced to three years for failing to provide the necessities of life - they starved the little girl, kept her in a windowless room on a cement floor, and she had varied injuries.
She was with her grandparents a year before being removed from their home.

Such a cute little girl - it breaks my heart.
If I could afford it and if I could be home to care for them, I would foster parent - 10 children! There are not enough foster parents/guardians to go around, IMHO.

Dh and I fostered for years. We did mainly teens (they are hard to find placements for) we did little ones three times and it ripped my heart out when they would be sent back home, I couldn't take it anymore, way to much heart invested in babies. My teens were always great and we still hear from them all the time.

That scrap of paper that she wrote on...just too sad for words! She was such a beautiful little girl. It's so unfair that she never got to hear anyone tell her!

Rest in peace Katelynn. What they did and what she wrote just breaks my heart.
