I believe you. You can teach just about any dog not to be yappy. Eddie( aka"the terrorist") has that shrill Jack Russell bark that I can't stand. . therefore, I've pretty much trained him not to do it . . .except when face to face with a stranger. . .gotta be reasonable.. . .barking is "required" at certain times.

Oh, absolutely right, MQ....I don't shush her if anyone's approaching the house. Unfortunately she still thinks our letter-carrier and paper-delivery people are "stealing our stuff", so she barks at them from inside the house...but, too funny: when she hears a strange noise outside, she barks, runs to me to be picked up, then gruffs from that vantage point...yep...really brave...

Gaius (Our Inuit sled dog) Let's out a single fearsome bark when someone comes to the door and he can't see that it's one of us. He waits before the big bark to make sure it's not one of us (he's not a barker without good reason). If it isn't one of us at the door, or if he can't tell, out comes that fearsome bark. I can't imagine a bad guy ever coming through the door after hearing that. I always give him 'good doggy' scruffins after that.

...oh, MQ...Doxies love to bark, but all I have to say to Jenny is, "Jenny, Ladies don't bark."...and she just grrrrrrrs...lol...It's so amazing how she can 'understand' my commands!

Actually , when we had her kennelled, she woukdn't even do her business in her outdoor run because it was covered! They had to let her into the yard for that...yes, every inch a Lady..

Just another OMG moment .....Marley does the exact same thing. From the time she was a puppy, when she would bark, I would say to her, use your inside voice, and she would stop barking and use a really low pitch grrrrrr..... it just keeps pointing in the same directing my dear.....strange..., lol

Oh, Holly...lol..."inside voice"....!! As for sleeping with pups, I can't believe how much ROOM a little doxie can take up! My hubby said he's fine with "1/3 of the bed".......!

Dave: "scruffins"...so cute..when I give Jenny her scruffins for grrr-ing or a little bark, hubby gives me "the eye", but in a fun way...he knows I feel safer with a dog in the house...
