Forwarded.....
Am I the only person who hasn't heard of "cooler corn"?
As an obsessive food nerd, you'd expect that I would have at least heard of it, but over the weekend I was blind-sided by the simple genius of this method for cooking loads of corn on the cob perfectly. I was hepped to it while visiting my family. Short story: We like corn on the cob. And with eight adults at the table, that means a couple of dozen ears. We would have used the lobster pot to cook them all, but the lobster pot was busy steaming lobster. "Let's do cooler corn!" Before I can ask "what the hell is cooler corn?" a Coleman cooler appears from the garage, is wiped clean, then filled with the shucked ears. Next, two kettles-full of boiling water are poured over the corn and the top closed. Then nothing. When we sat down to dinner 30 minutes later and opened it, the corn was perfectly cooked. My mind was blown. And I'm told that the corn will remain at the perfect level of doneness for a couple of hours.
Turns out, Cooler Corn is pretty well known among the outdoorsy set But for those of us who avoid tents as much as possible, it's perfect for large barbecues and way less of mess than grilling. In fact, I may even buy another cooler just so I'm ready for next summer. Now that I'm in the know.
Has anyone heard or seen this before? I wonder if this would work??

Hope everyone enjoyed their day.
Critters are in a playful mood, so I'm not allowed to stay on here. Maybe once they're asleep, I can get back on the computer. I think it's payback for asking them to help with the housework.
Night all.

I will definitely give it a go!
What I know works great is to add a pound of butter to a 2L juice container and fill with boiling water (from the corn pot)
Put it on the table for serving, and just dip your corn in!
Melted butter floats to the top, completely coats the corn, ready to go!
Not sure how many cobs it does, but a lot!
Keep it rolling and serve fifty or a hundred with ease!
Boil an ounce of shake for a few hours with the butter and a few liters of water, strain out the herb with cheese cloth before adding the "prepared" butter.
Butter takes all the THC above about 230F, water separates when cooled.
and you really don't know where the party will go!
Have your corn and get high too!
But definitely save the leftover butter by freezing the juice container and skimming it off.

I have been meaning to try doing cooler corn and did some reading about it a while back. One possible issue is that most coolers are not made to be heated, and the plastic may not be safe for this purpose. certain plastics will emit chemicals into the hot water that should not be consumed. Older-style metal coolers should not be any problem, but who still has one of those things kicking around? I was thinking I would try it this way - prepare the ears as you would for grilling; peel back the husk, remove the silk and fold the husk back into place. Then place as many as will fit into a large freezer-size ziplock bag, fill the bag with cold water and seal it. Do this with all the ears, then put the bags of corn into the cooler, fill with boiling water and close the cooler. The corn will not be in contact with the water in the cooler, only the clean water in the bags. Also, the flavour of the corn will not be lost into the entire cooler, but enhanced by the husks.
Anyway, here I am talking like I have a clue - I haven't even tried this yet!

Don't use an old galvanized cooler!
Zinc is definitely not good, lead is worse, so watch out for old painted metal coolers, stainless would be great!
PVC is poisonous, but not sure at the low temps, need to look into that, plastic food saver bags would be safer
BUT:
Country Joe says it best...Woopie we are all going to die!
Gamma always said; "you would eat a peck of dirt before you die!"
