Turn it on its side! Of course...one would have to ba careful of not having
the cheese over-run the toast, but would this really work?!!

hmmmm all the crumbs would have to be taken out before doing that though because they would fry touching the elements. Not sure I would risk having melted cheese in my toaster

I would not do that - the elements aren't the same as in a toaster oven.

I remember once putting in cold buttered toast into a toaster to warm it up - not a good plan!

Just a side note, my son mentioned that a friend of his has a microwave with a toaster built in, said it was the coolest thing he ever saw. Convenient for kids out on their own, sharing a house.

That looks really clever, but have you had a look inside a toaster, especially a cheap one? I swear it's held together by cardboard and twist ties.

Have you ever made double toasted toast? You toast the bread like normal, then lightly butter the one side and put it back in the toaster for another minute or two, preferably if you have a bagel function and can turn off the heat for the side that's not buttered. It is very good, but the excess butter melts and drips onto the bottom.

When was the last time you looked at the crumb catcher on your toaster? Pretty scary...

marstec, that's what I was getting at when I reheated buttered toast...

I have to empty the crumbcatcher at least once a week, since a lot of time we slice our own bread, and so it's more crumby. The toaster is well-used in our house.

The sideways toaster would eliminate the bends in frozen waffles heated in toasters (then try removing said waffles from toaster slots with those bends!). I prefer using a toaster oven instead for waffles.

I don't have a toaster in the condo anymore. I bought a breville toaster oven a few years ago, and it's the best. I do most of my baking in there when it comes to meal since it's only dh and I left at home now. It makes great toast too.

I use a toaster in the rv still and believe it or not, I have turned it on it's side to melt stuff on toast (probably because I'm so used to my to my toaster oven) and yes you do have to clean the crumb catcher first ....she says and she is trying to open the windows to let the billows of smoke out
We all need a little sunshine every now and then

Keep a fire extinguisher handy, and don't mention this to your insurance company. Otherwise, great tip!
