Thread: The Bay Misinformation and Brush Off

One week ago we purchased a Distinctly Home Outdoor Havana 5 piece patio set from the Bay. It was advertised in the paper and online for the sale price of $299, original price $699. When I began unpacking the set, I found a tag attached by Distinctly Home with the price: Havana 5 piece set, $425. When we contacted the Bay, they said first said that was the price for just the chairs but it clearly says "5 piece set - $425." Then they said that it was the mistake of the manufacturer. When we asked to speak to a manager, they said they would get back to us in 72 hours but they never did. When we phoned for the fourth time, we finally talked to someone who told US to phone THEIR manufacturer in Texas!
We never received an apology or any offer of compensation, even thought the real price of this set is $275 less than advertised.
Silly us for buying from the Bay when we know how terrible their customer service is. I can tell you THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME BUT IT WILL BE THE LAST!

Wait I don't understand. Did you pay more than $299 plus tax? Or did you get the wrong item?

Paying $299 for a $425 set is still a good deal. If the flyer said something like "57% off regular price" then I would understand the complaint.

I don't understand why you would want compensation or even an apology? You paid less no matter what the price was supposed to be $699 or $425...

Retailers can charge as much or little as they want, manufacturers do not set prices for the most part. They suggest a price
It is like when chicken breasts are on sale for $3.99 and are Half Price but no one ever charges $8/lb except for organic
If it was $425, add import duties, taxes they pay at border, shipping costs, its not hard for it to cost $600 up here

an MSRP is just that...the SUGGESTED retail price by the manufacturer.
