I saw a flyer listing the five movies planned for the Fridays. To my delight, the last three Fridays will feature animated films! Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke (best for teens and up due to some violent images), and Astro Boy will be screened.

I personally liked the Japanese voice cast for the Miyazaki films, as the US casts tend to favour celebrities who may not give the best voices for their characters (but Gillian Anderson does a very good spirit god acting job). Not a fan of Billy Bob Thornton (his voice stood out too much from the other actors' voices) and have mixed feelings about Minnie Driver for her character.

Films at Fieldcote have a popcorn vendor on site. Parking is usually at Ryerson Church next door. Films begin at dusk. See movie lineup here:

The first animated title is Howl's Moving Castle on Friday night! If you live near McMaster University, note that the 5C West Hamilton bus runs on weeknights into Ancaster. You'd have to walk 10-15 min to get to the site unless you come earlier and transfer to one of the hourly Ancaster buses (ending at about 9:20pm going westbound to Duffs Corners, 9:50pm going back to Meadowlands).

Tonight, Princess Mononoke will play on the big screen! There is bagged popcorn for sale @$3 per bag and the Purple Pony ice cream cart sells 3 treats: Haagen Daaz vanilla milk chocolate ice cream bar, lime-coconut ice cream cookie sandwich and a choco-chip ice cream sandwich ($4 apiece).

The film volunteers have some bug repellent cans on the stage-watch for the safety pylons which indicate cables in the area. Bring a jacket or blanket--the temp. can get cold at night, if the bugs don't get you first! Some plastic patio chairs are offered. A few attendees brought blankets or sleeping bags to settle into during the movie last week.

There is a donation can if you have some coins/dollars to give towards the film festival.
