I make my own laundry soap and it works fabulous, for extra dirty clothes just rub a little into the grime. I make alot of soap so I grind the cuttings, add water and add the washing soda and borax and it works really good. Sometimes I make dry instead of liquid just by not adding the water. I have made scented and unscented. Also have made D/W detergent and that took trial and error as I do not want spots and I finally found a recipe that works for me.
**tip for really grimy clothes, rub the bar of soap dirrectly onto the spot**

LOL, I made a jug more than 3 months ago and I made it stronger to wash DH work clothes it works sooo good, better than anything else I have ever tried. 1/4 cup per load and when I do regular laundry I use about 1/8 cup. Whites come out white. I use dryer balls instead of bounce so that saves money too.

Thanks, I wonder if I can use this in my HE washer if I only use a little bit? Lavender oil is a great idea!

YOu can! I make my own too, but in powder form (equal parts oxgenbleach powder (like oxyclean free), washing soda and borax) use about 1 OZ per load in an HE washer.
For softener I use 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar and some lavender oil.
Febreeze and fabric softener scare me (ethanol and who knows what else is in there!?) so yes, I make my own too.
