You can keep the jars you get from some sauces as they are masson jars. We like the spaghetti sauce in a jar better than the stuff in a can so I end up with 3 or new jars every month. I just buy new rings and lids. I also have the big canning pot for the hot water bath. I have all of next July off so I will be canning a ton of jams.

I love canning, I jst pickled sweet beets. Important information: Always sterile, your bottles, lids and tongs. Have a clean cloth to wipe the lip of the jars after filling.

I only usually buy new snap lids, I don't need very many rings. 24 hours after i've canned them, I out them in storage with no ring on, and then reuse my rings to do more canning. That way it's easier to tell if a seal has broken, and they tend to get less corosion if they're not stored on the jars. so often my canning ends up costing almost nothing - just 10 cents for a new lid, and the "too much money" I spent watering the garden in the spring, and whatever new gardening tools I "have" to have.
