    yougurt update.

ok. started at 1 . finished and in jars at 1:30 .
    out of cooler at 5.
checked at 9 pm. thickening up nicely. hopefully by am, it will be.

    I used orginal vanilla yourgurt 1 1/3 c
    and 4 L homo milk.

    cost aprox 5.00
    made 5 quart jars.

added 3 capfull of vanilla and no sugar.
    tastes nice.
little thin still, as I said, hoping by am it will be thick.
will definatly make again if not thick again. it has alot of potential.

I wonder if you could add like lemon extract to make lemon yogurt. Or fruit. hmm...

I think lemon extract is a bit too bitter to use to flavour yogurt. I would try grated lemon rind. Maybe it's just me. Anyway Clubhouse makes a banana extract too, another idea. I bet the LorAnn's extracts that come in the wee bottle at Bulk Barn (for candymaking) would give you a good flavour for yogurt.

    The possibilities are endless...
I make my own vanilla extract and I've been toying with the idea of making my own lemon and mint extracts. So, so easy.

And they still do... our church kids are doing it this spring. I remember when it first started. But I was young, REALLY young! LOL!

I've never tried it, but here's another recipe using the slow cooker. Based on the comments it seems to work.

I would love to make my own yogurt, but heating and cooling to certain temperatures is too much with a 2 year old around. I might try the slow cooker version and see how that goes

I need to by some ground beef and stock up on homemade spagetti meat sauce to freeze. It's great when you're in a rush and need a quick healthy meal (whole wheat pasta and sauce has veggies snuck in )

Off to scour the flyers to see what I can come up with for this week! Last week was a lot of frozen meals, but last night we had some tilapia, with rice and veggies. yum yum!

I have gotta stop looking at the flyers.... My grocery list is getting bigger and bigger... Is anyone else like this? I think next week I'm cutting my budget to $25 and using up a lot of what I have here at home.
