okay, I don't know much about desktops (is that what you were looking for), but I know with Laptops, the cheaper end one's tend to not have enough RAM for your OS, which is what happened with my friends cheap end ACER, not enough RAM = pile of cr*p. If you have a better idea of what you want it for, I can probably help more!

I like Samsung's, I've had one for over 3.5 years, and it's awesome, also they *just* started selling them in North America, they aren't "cheap", the one I want is around 800$, but I see a computer as an investment not to be taken lightly.

I am currently shopping for a laptop. I am looking for something cheap for surfing, word processing, some digital image processing
I am looking at this one:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...08&catid=25315
or this one:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...88&catid=25316
I think both are great value, they are new systems with Windows 7, 4gb ram, minimum 400gb hard drive.
The gateway doesn't have dual core processors but has an Intel processor which I understand is better than AMD. The gateway also has a larger screen.
Wow, the prices of laptops sure have dropped!!My family currently has a 1 in 20 chance for a trip for 4 anywhere WestJet flies. Please vote for my son if you can spare a moment. https://apps.facebook.com/rfscontest...93?eid=1800024

The question you have to ask yourselves is what will be using the computer for? Gaming? Music downloading? etc..
I suggest you speak to a professional/specialist.. Don't goto futureshop.. they'll sucked you into buying something you don't need or pay more than you want.
Also you can build the PC you want at Dell.ca but you have to pay with a credit card to order it,., But you'll get the computer you want.

Yes, don't rely and the futureshop sales person. But I know my stuff well enough and know what I need it for. I can shop their site, go in person and read onlines review to narrow down my selections. At elast for my price point, I don't see much on the Dell site right now. I am looking for a CHEAP machine.

Best Buy is pretty good for asking questions, because they aren;t on commission, they obviously want the sale, but aren't as pushy.

I personally will never own another dell... But then again I do tons on my laptops that I am assuming most of you ladies probably don't (closet gamer)
I love the sony vaios and if its just for standard use I would recommend it... But if u need it for mmorpgs then don't get it ( and if u have to ask what mmorpgs are u can get a sony :p)
My poor lil laptop was overloaded and then I decided to switch anti-viruses ( a highly recommended one from my nerd crew) and it did an update and most peoples computers were out for a few days... But my poor lil lappy filled to its capiticy and then some needs some serious help...
I should also probably note that I am very very hard on electronics, I don't try to be, it just happens...
Another I had for 2 full years (my record) was a cheapo acer... It ran, got dropped hundreds of times, got wet in the rain, or my soup spilling on and... And just about 2 1/2 years since the day I bought it, it stopped working... Bought the sony, and took the acer to the nerd crew and they had it running like it was brand new in under a half hour... It still runs today... One of my friends uses it as a game sever... And it just keeps going like the energizer bunny
Everyone is gonna have their own opinions about which is best... Which to avoid... But u need to look at what it will be used for, and do ur research... Good luck and happy shopping
