I was spending my time looking for slugs but that got old fast so I loaded the garden with slug bait. Hope they enjoy their meal

Give 'em beer, Jays, that's what we do here. A bit for them, then you finish the bottle!

Have you ever heard about an ammonia drench? You mix up a solution of household ammonia with water (10%, so 1 cup ammonia to ten cups water). You do this in the Spring before your hostas leaf out and you only pour it around the base of the soil, not on the plant - it might burn the foliage. This kills the slug eggs that are lying in the soil. I've heard that a vinegar solution would do the same job, but I know that vinegar can also be used as a weedkiller, so you have to be more careful. Ammonia is a source of nitrogen, so it would be fairly benign for hostas unless you put it on too strong.

Thanks Natalka, although I don't think I like the idea of sharing my beer with them.. lol

marstec, I'll have to refer back to this thread in the early spring next year, that sounds like a great idea

GoJays your garden looks incredible! So beautiful.

I think this is the year that my peony is finally going to bloom.

Just noticed the clematis has two blooms on it already.

Here is picture of my iris that finally bloomed! On June 12! I saw the buds finally forming on Monday and went for a look today and they were fully bloomed! I was expecting to get some nice inbetween pictures but I guess they figured they waited long enough to bloom lol.
I couldn't wait to take a pic and took one in the dark. Now to wait for the rest of the iris bunches to bloom in front and back. Looks like the peonies will be next.

Well I had to post again as I saw the number of my last post. LOL
Plus I went to check my pics from last year and funnily enough I had taken pictures of my blooming Iris and Peonies on June 11 of last year! LOL
So I guess they really aren't that late as we had a really nice spring last year. It was just a terrible spring this year that made winter seem so long.

I see the sun, come on sunshine!! I think we had about 3 inches of rain this week. Too bad I did not have my rain barrel set up yet. Too many projects and that was one of the last , OH well at least I saved the water that accumulated in the wheel barrow.

My big rhododendron is blooming despite the dismal weather we've had lately. I swear I'm getting moldy!

Well the things you can find to use for the garden when you look. I was looking around the hubbies shop and found some treasures!
I found a nice wood crate that I will be using as another raised bed. Also the cinder blocks to put the rainbarrel he found me on, which is the white barrel with the black plastic on top (so thats two so far and would really love one more). Plus a wood pallet that will be converted into a one of the herb gardens I have been seeing on Pinterest.Name: Garden Findings!.jpg

PS have also found some interesting wood stains to apply to these new items. I will post pictures of my experiment when they are done.

The sun finally came out! Well, sort of...at least it isn't raining anymore. Last shot is the pink and white gasplant in full bloom, along with the Siberian iris.
