I went to Sports Experts yesterday and Purchased a hockey bag from them. It retailed at $29.99 but was scanned at $59.99. I told the lady that I should have $10 off the origianal price because it was scanned incorrectly , and she told me Very rudley that the price scan law doesn't apply to Sports Experts. I asked to speak to the manager and he said the same thing. I am e-mailing th company. I am furious.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Are some stores exempted from the Scanner price law? This thread is currently associated with: Sports Experts

go here and find a list of participating stores, and see if they are infact exempt or not. if you feel that they do infact owe you, you can file a complaint thru the competition bureau of canada

Yes some stores are exempt..take Winners for instance, people will actually ticket switch items, to try and get a lower price on things. This is actually a form of shoplifting and is there for exempt to the scanner code. There are many other stores where this happens as well.

I thought it was only a policy and not a law? or so thats what my supervisor told me when another co-worker asked.

The Price Scanning Accuracy is a POLICY, so participation is voluntary.
It is basically a business code of ethics, not enforceable by law.
Here is a link with a partial list of companies that participate in this practice.

In some provinces it is law, in others it is voluntary at the stores discretion. I would look online to check for your province, then contact the head office for that store. Good luck!

My understanding is that in Ontario the scanning code of practice is voluntary. Walmart, NoFrills and Zehrs definitely participate in the program and Zellers definitely does not.
