I'm actually not into sports at all, maybe that's the real problem lol. We will not be returning to Ontario as my husband has found it very difficult to find employment as a licensed mechanic and receive more then minimum wage. I believe many of you are right, I may just be encountering a lot of jerks - which are in every city/town/village all over the world - maybe I attract them? I don't know, I try to be nice and curteous to other people assuming others will do the same, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I was very upset and angry when I wrote the op, and once again I am terribly sorry if I have upset others by, it was not my intent. I really needed to blow off a huge amount of steam and realize that not only my title was wrong, but so was how I wrote the post. BUT, I hate an op-er changes/modifies their original post just bc someone else states their opinion/disagrees/provides sound, reasonable arguements. This is why I have not modified my op. I believe everyone has the right to know why others where angry with what I wrote and how I have responded.

My husband had a hard enough time being seperated from us for the 2 months he was in Edmonton and they boys and I where in Ontario - I highly doubt he will be able to handle 12 more months on his own

I actually find Toronto to be a lot like Edmonton, and don't think rural at all. Both cities are very busy with a lot of people on the roads at the same time going about their business. Our 3 yr plan is to move to the country or a small town where my husband can commute to work. We prefer seeing tractors drive down the main straight rather then seeing 100+ cars in 10 minutes - but this just us. We are not city folks but must stay in the city for now. Its unfortunate, but what can be done but smile and nod and get prepared for the third year when things fall into place.

I believe what I need to do is just follow my husbands lead and not giving a flying monkey's butt about the jerks. Thanks to those that understood I was blowing off steam; those who stated why they disliked what I wrote and clearly stated way; those who provided their own insights about what they think; and those who provided similar experiences. I greatly appreciate it and welcome your opinions every time I post.

I spent a total of 6 weeks in Alberta and I 've been to Edmonton twice.. both times to take my dying father to see a specialist there.. I was amazed at the kindness of drivers as my sister and I were like country bumpkins wandering around, trying to find the hospital, hotel and the highway on the way out. Not one driver honked their horn, tailgated or stressed us out even more by being aggressive or cranky. I found it amazing because I know had I been doing the same in Toronto, the drivers would have responded so differently. I was impressed with the kindness of everyone we encountered, they reminded me more of the East Coast peeps than peeps in Ontario. I'm sorry that your experience has been so different.

Nope, beg to differ again. They are very different, may be you could compare whyte ave area with Toronto but then that is more of university area and does not really represent Edmonton completely. Sorry, I don't mean to offend you but I think when you are calm every thing looks nice to you which is good but real world may be a little different. And probably every thing looks the other way when you are not so calm and that is just not fair with whatever you are dealing with at that time.

Recently I saw a group of school going children give finger to the drive ahead of me because he did not stop long enough for them to cross the road even though they were far behind from the intersection. I don't recall similar in Toronto but I am only glad that some else was ahead of me for that finger . I also do not remember people in Toronto getting into building's big garbage collectors to collect cans/boxes which in my opinion is totally unsafe but I have seen it around very often here in Edmonton. And I do remember the fights in Toronto which I had to put up at Walmart (specifically) and other stores while trying to use a perfectly legit coupon and waiting for a manager to arrive which I have not needed even once here in Edmonton. So the list of comparison goes on but every place has ups and downs and they are both great places to live.

OP, I sincerely appreciate your apology and open mindedness. I completely understand moving from a nice quiet country environment to a big huge city where people just disregard other peoples feelings. I hope your encounters were isolated and I really hope you start to feel at home in your new environment. Just remember it's not forever and one day you'll be in your forever home and at peace with the move.

Ignore the jerks in the meantime. There are so many good people out there and I have no doubt you are one of them.

I was only refering to Toronto and Edmonton as not rural. To me, rural is Miravian Town, Paine Court, St. Joachim, Thamesville, and other small rural towns in SW Ontario. I have never lived in Toronto and have not lived long enough in Edmonton to make comparisons between the two.

Wow Op I am so sorry you have encountered some jerky people in Edmonton.I go there a lot and have encountered some doozies myself as well as a lot of nice people.I think it is the same everywhere you go.I hope you settle in and enjoy your time here!!
What I find funny is that you came on to rant about a bad day and ran into more jerky people!!! A little ironic I think!!

Boy, reading about your behaviour in example #1 in the original post makes me think that people's response to you has nothing to do with you being from Ontario!

Would you have prefered that I responded the first way as the female driver? Slamming on my breaks for fictional rodents, getting out of my vehicle in a busy parking lot to scream and yell at her - and jeopardizing the safety and well being of my young child in the car - then hunting her down in the parking lot so that I could once again potentially jeopardize the safety and well being of my young child and my early pregnancy?

I was angry and very p*ssed off and needed to vent, which is why I chose to do so here on a rants page. I am a non confrontational person and do not get into people's faces to yell and scream when I am angry. When I hit my horn and continued to press it until she got back in her car, it was the only choice available to me. Her road rage was so severe that there was no other option available to me as I could not get around her unless I hit her with my car or struck her car in order to get around her stopped vehicle. I know I should of followed my uncles advice (who is an OPP) and immediately called the police, but I was not thinking clearly at the time bc I was deeply concerned she was going to strike me or put myself, my young child, and my early pregnancy at risk. I do not agree that it was my fault the female driver was so irrate and full of road rage, or that I needed to go into the parking lot that she also chose to go into. I have never experienced any road rage of any kind towards myelf ever, so I hope your able to understand why I chose to respond the way I did.

I was angry (most of it was centred around the female driver though) so I wrote my rant, I walked away feeling calmer, read the posts and responded, then made amends for my faults. If this makes me a terrible person to you or that I deserved the road rage (I was probably the last straw for her when she strongly believed I was too close to her when she slammed on her brakes in front of me) then it does, but I know others who know me very well think otherwise, and that is good enough for me.

I think she was referring to your remark Yes, I did start following closer to her when she decided to jeopardize mine, my sons, and her life (. I could be wrong though... it would have seemed safer to stay as far away from the driver as possible once you could see they were behaving in an unsafe manner

Hey, relax. No one is calling you terrible but you do come across kind of emotional which I think is causing the problem for you. I know I should not be judging you but apparently some one above ^ already included me in your jerk list . Anyway, I am an honest person and I do think you should try to not take things personally or think people discriminating you for coming from ON. May be just skip the Ontario part which no one really cares about here. I have come across so many people who moved from ON to AB and every single one is very happy because of enjoying a better life with more opportunities compared to what they had before.

By the way, you did post in the right place because general population here is extremely supportive (may be excluding some Edmontonian jerks ). Good luck and I almost forget, Welcome to Edmonton. I think it will get better with time .

Eh I will break-check too if someone follows to close to me - thats just me. If i can see your laugh lines in my rear view mirror you are following too close.

    ~driving in Edmonton 15 yrs~

Not sure why you are classifying a city of a million people into ON haters, i find they are quite friendly and kind people myself.
