yikes, just found out what the star flower is, Bittersweet Nighshade...isn't that poisonous?

My father in law used to tell me "a weed is a flower in the wrong spot."

The yard is a lot more raggedy this year since I am not putting the time into it as I have before now that my son Theo is a toddler.

These are the last of columbines (excuse the weeds), white hollyhock and some of the larkspur. You can see the first of the daylilies have come out behind the larkspur.

    Question for you guys.

My tomato plants are now at the top of the trellis I made for them, 4 feet tall now. I am wondering if I should crop the tops now or let them continue to grow up? There are 4 levels of tomatoes on them the bottom ones are of course getting pretty big. It's only the first week of July and I have never cropped them this early.

Do you use aluminum sulphate to keep them blue?

Oh everyone!! I just love coming onto this thread and seeing pics and hearing about your hearty bounty!! ( GoJays enjoy that ONE green bean, I have none yet!! The plant is huge and spread all over Kingdom Come out back, lots of flowers but not a bean yet....hrmph!! )
On a happier note I ate 2 fist fulls ( I gots big fists too! ) of fresh snow peas with my breakfast today, pick, wash, de-string them and ate them raw!! Oh I am so glad they grow well for me, one of my favourite veggies.

I haven't put anything except compost on this one. Just the soil around here I think. I added coffee grounds to another one that stared going very pink after being in a pot for a few years. It probably had a build up of fertilizer salts that changed the soil ph. It is starting to get a bit of purple to it now.

Yes they will go pink on you if you don't add aluminum sulphate or keep the soil very acidic. I add it to my blue spruce also it makes them much bluer.
