We only use incandescent. Husband is an electrician, against the compact fluorescents.

I've switched back as the CFL lights give off a hum sound that hurts my head.

We have incandescent. I picked up some of the CFLs when they were first introduced and were being given away at various places, but don`t use them. Too many horror stories about mercury and pets.

I detest the new light bulbs and very much wish I had stocked up on incandescent bulbs when it started to be publicized a few years ago that they would be phased out. I don't care if the new bulbs are energy efficient or not - the quality of light is cold, unnatural, jarring, and gives me headaches. The fact that they contain mercury and are hard to dispose of isn't exactly reassuring, either.
I actually burn more candles now than I used to, not just because I enjoy candles but because I prefer candlelight to the light of CFLs.Unique items and great deals to be found on the Halifax Cat Rescue Society auction page.

I hate how the new bulbs burn out so quickly .. I have a few in places that take a very agile and brave person to get to,(poor planning on my part) and only use the old style there, no stockpile tho .. I aint getting any younger and I'm lot rounder now too!! lol
To those burning candles .. if you have a forced air furnace .. keep an eye out on the furnace filter .. that soot actually leaves a greasy black coating on them, they'll eventually starve the fan motor for air. Went to check my filter and was surprised, it clogs the filter media much sooner and doesn't look bad if you just do a visual, but I run my fan constant and have the long lasting 4" filters. Yet still only get one season out for them(3months).Last edited by newb; Sun, Aug 10th, 2014 at 09:49 PM. Reason: more info

I have nothing to do today and hope to be half done by noon.

my pet peeve with the new bulbs was " what if it slips out of my hands while I am precariously on the step ladder in mid change ? " I'd need a hazmat suit to clean it up. And my pets!!? You know they come over and sniff every freaking thing to see if it might be food, so no way do I want them things here! I try to stock pile the original bulbs when I see sales.

I still buy the old ones at the dollar store. I read a article about the new ones a while back. Seems even environmental groups are against them. There was something in the article about consumers only saving pennies on their light bill by using the new bulbs but if the electric companies can get people to switch over to the new bulbs they would be the ones saving a ton of money.

I thought I was one of the few left that still use incandescent light bulbs...I hate the new ones, burns out quickly, noise, the way the room lights up seems more industrial, not cozy!! I stocked up on sunbeam lights from the dollarama..I guess I should get more!!

I have switched about 6-7 lights to LED's I was able to get some that give off the same kind of light that the old bulbs did. I refuse to get the CFL lights. I have kids and don't want the risk of mercury in my house. Plus the LED ones I got are dim-able and turn on just like the old bulbs no wait to warm up like cfl's
