no mail again today and never heard the mailman. 4 days without any mail. I would wonder if the road construction was stopping the mailman from being delivering but I heard him Tuesday and Wednesday but not Monday or today (Thursday). im waiting on a few things so I better have a full mailbox tomorrow or I'm complaining.

There was a sample in the local paper today of something called Maggi ( So Juicy) ??? I have never used this. Package says
" just add 4 chicken breasts " bag and seasoning included. I looked on the back and omg! the first ingredient is salt and the Nutrition Facts say for just 1/4 of this package ( now really who would use 1/4 of the stupid package at a time ?) it is 720 mg or 30% of your daily total value. ugh! free is nice but I will toss this I think.Last edited by walkonby; Thu, Sep 25th, 2014 at 09:41 PM.

^walkonby-that's the fun of nutrition labels, they have to reflect a portion size and what you get in said size. Now if it was possible to enjoy this seasoning pack dry like those seasoning packs with instant noodles as a snack (I saw this two years in a drama from South Korea and never thought of enjoying my fave quick noodle dish that way), then we may be getting creative with what to dip into the seasoning.

lecale....Isn't that 30% ( or 720 mg ) on the label saying that in that one single serving of the spice mix you are using up THAT much out of your Total Daily Recommended salt allotment? I thought that was the point of the labeling in the first place so consumers that want to be careful not to go over that recommended amount for each day could be selective in how they choose which foods to eat.
Aren't foods with a higher sodium amount in a single serving going to impact what else you can ingest that day? That is one chicken breast, at one meal....so that leaves the entire rest of the day to split the remaining 70% of the recommended sodium amongst all the other meals and snacks.
Most will go over the recommended sodium intake because of that. This was my main point.

lecale I have also heard those newer reports about the danger of having too little sodium. ( a coworker had also mentioned/cautioned me as they thought I was not taking in any sodium ) I thought it was kind of silly because sodium is naturally occurring if you are eating a well balance diet so you will certainly have enough sodium in you for the day, even if you opt to cook without it OR even if you do not add it at the table, as we have done here for a while now.
It is the hidden sodium that is in all processed, prepackaged foods that is the culprit that gets my blood a boiling, ( and you are right I should write Nestle and rant to them ) but as well as that it is the cumulative effect that presents the problem for me. There is the addictive side to the equation where one year you are eating lets say the happy medium of 1-2 tsp per day, but as time goes on you eventually crave just a tad more to satisfy the salt beast within you. Then 10 years down the road you may or may not realize that you are eating in fact a diet quite high in salt ( what used to taste fine 10 years earlier, now tastes bland )
I also cannot in good conscience donate any processed foods to a food bank that I would not eat myself on a regular basis, so money is the best donation venue for me. I appreciate your input here, thanks.
