Long time lurker here...
I frequently shop at this store as we love their Artisan deli meats, hate shopping on Upper James, and it's never busy (guess that's why they're closing)
In chatting with employees, they are not becoming a Food Basics, they had to sign severance packages, and rumor has it they will become a No Frills.
Which I guess now makes sense, as I have heard from several people that the Walmart at Upper Sherman & Mohawk was going to expand...to become a Walmart Supercentre, thus pushing No Frills out...
But then again that location is very close to Upper James & Fennell Walmart
But then again there are already 3 No Frills on the Mountain...why bother with a fourth?

I hope the No Frills on Upper Sherman and Mohawk does not close - although they are small and need a renovation and usually sell out of things, I enjoy the location because it is easy to stop in, get some of the things that I get at such discount stores, price match, etc. and then move on to do the rest of my shopping at Fortinos up the street.
Maybe this thread can keep track of any sales happening at the Metro in lieu of the closing?!

I'm going to check this morning.
When the store in Bramton closed everything went to 50% off for the last week.
By that time there probably won't be much left.

I'm a little concerned that once that Metro closes, there might be designs on the store in Dundas at University Plaza (it's a good store and helps to anchor the plaza) or the one in Westdale (but in the 80s, residents had lobbied their councillor to get them a store), so maybe it's safe. Upper James store benefits from the traffic at Cdn. Tire plus the buses in the area.
I have not been in Dundas lately to see if the Food Basics on Governor's Road has much changed the store interior since the Metro store closed.
Offtopic, but Main St. W. Fortinos now has its Pane Fresco area! Grand opening tomorrow, if you are anywhere near McMaster University.Last edited by Ciel; Thu, Oct 30th, 2014 at 11:13 PM.
