For me I look for things on sale. For crafts I buy in bulk like construction paper larger bottles of paint.

For meals I usually make a bit extra and then freeze it into smaller portions to save on groceries.

How much is everyone charging for in-home daycare? I'm looking into bringing some kids in just to make ends meet. I lost my job while on maternity leave, so I have nothing to go back to when it runs out

Here in Milton, Ontario the average is $35-45 per day depending on the age of the child for home daycare. I know one lady who is only charging $30 per day but she is in Rockwood, Ontario.

Around here, I think $25-$30 is pretty standard.

Don't forget you can only watch so many children in your home without ECE, also there are programs you can get involved in, I know here they basically interview you then place kids in the program and you make pretty decent money.

Most babysitters here are 20-30 a day, or 3-4 per hour.

I've used home daycare with both of my kids and it worked well. If they are not registered, always ask for references and SIN (the SIN # is for deducting the childcare expenses on your taxes). I'm not sure of the average daily fee - I used daycare a couple of years ago and it ranged from $30-40/day depending on the age.

I also provide home childcare and love it!!

The average rate in my area is 35.00/ for a baby-preschooler. School age is a bit less.

Sort of. I have my niece (3) and nephew(18 months) during the day, sometimes here and sometimes at their place. I try to reuse as much as possible for craft projects. Over Christmas we used eggnog cartons and leftover Christmas card seals and ribbons to make bird feeders. Next week we're making muffin tin crayons from the old broken crayon pieces we have lying around. I try and hit the children's library once a week for a few new books and movies. Any other craft supplies we need I grab at Dollarama, right now my niece is loving paint-with-water books so I've been stocking up on those. $1 for at least an hour of enjoyment and the worst mess she could possibly make is spilled water

I think standard rate around here is 25$ a day per kid (I charge way less than that, but it's family). We're lucky, my sis and BIL have flexible schedules so if I need a day off for a Dr's appointment or whatever it's not a problem.
