Oops!
I really don't expect anyone in the US to know about him. Before this story broke out, I had no idea who he was. He's really not as important as he thought he was.
If it's true though that he fled to the US, it would be in the public's best interest for this story to go public there. It would hopefully protect more women from being assaulted. Maybe this faux pas will help spread the word.

The Toronto Star is reporting that Ghomeshi used a phone issued by CBC to inappropriately text women lewd comments. There's also a bit about how many universities made internships with Q "off-limits."

one of the many aspects that sicken me about this or
anything to do with women (and some times men)
being abused is how they (like i did - and that was 'just
violence') become passive.
and so just not say a word, to police or anyone
except perhaps people close to them,
like i did.
hoping that is a sign of those times, and not of these
and yet, i read about a woman who was raped,
and was subjected to the 'what were you wearing?' crap
by the police -
from what i have seen/heard jian has been doing this
since at least 2002 --- surprised that no one noticed,
or if they did, did nothing.
trying to take a positive note from this, which of course
is hard - is that the media etc. are interested, and
if any police try (because of some unbelievable reason)
and blame the victim it is NOT going to be something we
will let happen...

It has at least started opening up a conversation about WHY women don't report... this twitter campaign is one example (not sure if I'll have the link right,,, I still don't quite understand HOW twitter works )

On one hand, I think the discussions about why women don't report are empowering for women and hopefully will result in some changes being made to make reporting easier. On the other hand, I've been concerned about the stats of how many women report being repeated over and over again through the media. It seems like the stats may be encouraging to men who have violent tendencies. They may be more inclined to think they could get away with it.

I also think judges need to take the accusations more seriously, giving a abusers a slap on the wrist after which they return to their accuser and beat the crap out if her for reporting him! How many women have to die at the hands of someone who wasn't put away the first, second or third time he was accused of abuse?!
It's still on old boys club and women don't count for much no matter how loudly the old geezers protest their prejudices.

Adrian Peterson receives $4,000 fine, probation on plea deal
SB Nation 11/04/2014
Adrian Peterson's plea deal has been accepted, resolving his legal trouble but clouding his immediate NFL future.
Adrian Peterson has signed a plea of no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless assault, paving the way for his return to the NFL. The plea was accepted by Montgomery County judge Kelly Case. Peterson was indicted in September on a felony charge of reckless or negligent injury to a child. The indictment stemmed from an incident this past spring when he allegedly beat his 4-year-old son with a switch.
Pro Football Talk reported the details of Peterson's plea bargain Tuesday. By accepting the deal, Peterson will have to go on probation, pay a $4,000 fine and perform 80 hours of community service. The plea reportedly includes no reference to family violence or violence against a minor. The deal also defers a ruling on Peterson's innocence for two years. Peterson forfeits the right to appeal.
Per the conditions of his probation, Peterson will be subjected to random urine tests for two years. He will have no travel restrictions, but will have to meet monthly with a probation officer.
