2015 for my family is about saving for renovations/home improvements which are well overdue but financially not possible unless we tighten our belts.

My dh (hubby) is very handy so we save on labour costs.

I will admit it will take much longer than hiring someone but hiring someone is not in the budget.

My resolution is to put any extra $ away for renovations/projects that need to be completed, some have been started but have been put on hold because we ran out of $ or other pressing things such as life have taken priority.

My plan is to tackle the renos/projects in order of importance but as well in order of supplies, we do have some items already purchased but have not purchased everything. We have tons of drywall laying around but need to save up for spray foam insulation which is very costly (we buy the kit at HD or Lowes and do it ourselves). We also have light fixtures that were purchased but never installed....

I have compiled a list of renos/projects with a list of what supplies we have for that particular reno and also a list of what needs to be purchased for that particular reno.

Renos can be costly. I like the way you get chances at tre restore to help you out! Wish there was one here.

Dh is working on Jaden's closet in his existing room, we already had all the wood for the shelving so no new costs to us, so this year is off to a racing start

-hubby and I are needing a new furnace -so every month we manage to save a couple hundred-til we get it
-of course it helps our morgage is paid off -but hubby also picks up extra school bus runs which brings in extra 80-100 on his pays
-I just made 383.50 over the course of the year from checkout51 ,snapsaves and angus reid
-like frugalbigmama I made 136.00 selling stuffn kiiji
-in the bigger picture it all ads up

we bought a new furnance and air conditioning unit (Nov.2013), we went with a young man starting in the business..he was almost 50% cheaper than 4 other competitors and I thought his products were better..we go a top of the line York air conditioner and an Amana furnance..he was trying to get in our area..most people prefer to go with established business', but I thought I would give him a chance..there were a few minor things at the beginning, showed up late didn't call..didn't return call back in a timely manner( he was very busy!).. I explained that it's important to have great customer service..he was glad for the feed back..he was professional and the products are amazing!! He also said he would give me $100 for every referral..so if you kind find someone in your area like this, you would have amazing savimgs!!good luck!!

For those with renos in their plan locate a habitat for humanity re store many times they have new or nearly new items for half the cost and best of all no tax

We also have lots to do reno wise
Complete bathroom over haul incl.
New tub (prefer) but may just reglaze
Retile tub walls
New floor - maybe s its not necessary but I want the wood work under the toilet replaced so might as well
*hubby can do all this work so thats a bonus*
Finish kitchen cabinets - I won't hold my breath hubby had raised the one counter and half built the other but I still want a whole other wall cabinet/counter for all my pantry and other stock/supplies
Front yard and back garden need a major over haul
The basement needs to be finished but we need to replace the drywalls on the east side - I think its a lil damp and we are getting a bit of mold
Again hubby can do the work we just need to save up some money
The first thing we will do is fix my van. It will be paid off (finally) in September but needs all new bearings brakes a tire rod and I think we have a bent rim we just bought the parts but its too cold for hubby to do it now so either we pay someone or wait. It still needs a new exhaust and I'm sure a few other things so we need it in a shop and get a good look at it.

Im happy to say we are starting the new year with no credit card debt. That was a long hard road but I have learned if we don't have the money we don't get it.
We want to go away over the summer while the kids are off so we will be saving up for that.
Top 3 I would say
Van fixed and paid off
Save for vacation
And before winter comes again finish the basement

@Anna Michele I think you can scratch #1 of off your list (to be fixed anyway) return the parts or keep and post for sale.

Sounds like your husband is very handy which saves a ton of cash

Over the weekend we sold a bunch of items through a local facebook page so I am happy to report I will be putting $90.00 towards are spray foam kit, we already have $251.00 in the bank for this so

I got news today that I got a job. The pay isn't fabulous but its very easy work which is something I need as I am unsure how I will do with a physical job after a couple surgeries last year. Last year I lost my job because of needing such surgeries so it is very welcomed to go back to work after almost a year off.

DH will also be making an extra $280 a month by doing a premium type shift.

Because we were surviving off of DH's income alone I know we can do it so I hope we can continue to and then any wages I make + the increase he will get I want to put directly into our TFSA.

Those are our financial goals - basically save more lol.

And they come in 3 different sizes, the largest is the cheapest but the kits do not last long after being started, what I mean is you can let sit for a few days until you can get ready for the next spot you want to use but don't leave for more than a week or it goes flat/doesn't firm up, it's a costly lesson we learned.

Lowe's tends to be cheaper than Home Depot but home depot will price match lowes and beat by 10% so if you are able to get Home Depot to speak with Lowe's it save you having to wait for a flyer.
