REMEMBERING LAUREN

Sorry for the late email...
Today we're trying to put the pieces of our shredded world back together.
In case you haven't heard, our CHFI family is heartbroken with the news that Erin & Rob's daughter Lauren has passed away. She was just 24 years old.
After celebrating her first Mother's Day, she went to bed Sunday night and simply didn't wake up.
May 11 will never be the same ever again.

Erin is off indefinitely. Mike should be back in a few days.
We're crushed.
Michelle hasn't stopped crying for 24 hours.
There are no funeral arrangements yet.

Today is every broadcaster's professional nightmare. When the person you love becomes the news story, you can't imagine how difficult it is to manage the facts and the emotions. They are true pros.

THE LATEST FROM ERIN

Erin wrote to us late last night.
With her and Rob's permission, I'm sharing some of her email with you.

"After a teary drive to Ottawa, things are humming along on a surreal plane here.
Phil is carrying on bravely - he has no clue what single parenting is going to entail, but I'm sure he can handle whatever comes.
We'll all figure it out as we go along.
The emails and tweets and FB posts of support have been breathtaking.
One day they'll sink in; one day I'll answer all of the emails. Every one of them is so shudderingly sad that we can almost not bear to read them.
Because they actually make this a reality. And I don't know when we want to stop watching from above and sink into this new life that fate has decided we should live.

You see, right now - as far as I'm concerned - we're in another Ottawa hotel room, here in town for an all-too-brief visit.
But wondering why on earth Lauren is so late to the party. That's not like her.

How on earth does one family plan a wedding, a shower and a funeral all within two years?

Love to you all and thank you for your unwavering, incredible support.
The love for Lauren in this city (Ottawa) is something else.
Tweets from Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair? Just another surprise element to all of this.
She'd be floored.

In every way possible - good and bad - Rob and I don't know what we've done to deserve this. But thank you all for caring enough to read all this.
