Spoke with a top marketing Rogers exec recently (his office
is at CHFI), and I thought I'd share with you all some tidbits:
That "random name generator" used for contests is true, in that
potential winning names are chosen randomly about 15 minutes
before being called. Two back-up names are also chosen, and
apparently each ballot has an equal chance. Most contests,
especially the trip giveaways, have tens of thousands of ballots entered.
From a marketing perspective, their aim is to get us to spend
our points as much as possible; that's why they got rid of the CHFI
'store', and why so many contests now are subdivided by
different draw times, requiring more ballot entries. They are ever so
mindful of what happened at the other Rogers station (JACK FM) when
the loyalty points program was abruptly suspended, and collectors were
left with huge hoarded stashes of useless points - a real
marketing fiasco! Next time I see him, I'm going to ask him for a
heads-up should this points program end too.
