New Leaf Airlines (www.newleaftravel.ca) starts flying on February 12, 2016 within Canada. They are comparing themselves to the likes of Ryanair in Europe and Spirit or Allegiant in the U.S. The fares look very good - they fly from some smaller airports like Hamilton ON or Abbotsford BC. Maybe this is the year for a staycation, especially with the crazy U.S. exchange rate at the moment!

Thanks OP. This will give us some lower fare prices as the "big" Canadian companies try to keep their customers. Competition is good.

    Hey all. . .

Just came across this. Small airline start-up. Just flights in Canada, but if you want to cash in on visiting family etc., now may be the time to book!

Some of their rates start at $89. You can fly from Hamilton to Kelowna for under $200. Finally a cheap option to see Canada. Maybe we'll actually stay in Canada for vacation instead of going to the US (because flights were basically the same cost anyway)

I hope more people take this air lines and also Porter airlines. This will teach both Air Canada and West Jet and their price gouging a lesson.

Canadians complain a lot about monopolies, but given an alternative, they don't really take it and give the small guy a chance

Well, not so fast.... delayed til spring

In a release today, the new air service said its position was "ambiguous" while the Canadian Transportation Agency reviews licensing of indirect air service carriers.
NewLeaf had a charter arrangement with Kelowna, B.C.-based Flair Airlines Ltd., with Flair holding the CTA operating licence, while NewLeaf sold the seats.
The transportation agency is reviewing whether persons who do not operate any aircraft, but market and sell air services to the public, should be required to hold a licence directly.

So the airline that will be flying the plane has a licence, but the seller doesn't. So it sounds like it isn't a safety issue...just red tape delaying these cheap prices....
