Couple of weeks ago almost got a cart hit in my back. Guess the cart behind me was so full they could not see me in front of them. The cart was FULL of 50% off pink sticker meat on top and on the bottom sections. I moved out of the way and saw their shopping buddy with ANOTHER cart load of 50% off pink sticker bakery products. I know some stores donate reduced products to local food banks. But these were everyday shoppers - not charitable organizations.

    Next week, same thing.

This week, very little pink sticker reductions on clearance day, in the morning. Went back in the evening for milk and eggs and saw TONS of pink sticker items.

I think the store is putting pink stickers a few at a time, because of shoppers like this.

We only take a few of any pink sticker item and leave some for other people. No wonder the stores limit on quantities on some items. Because of these types of shoppers.

IMO, pink stickers are different from sale items. Pink stickers are usually short-dated items that the store wants to get rid of. It doesn't matter to them if it's one person buying fifty items or fifty people buying one item each. They're just happy it's gone. Frankly, it doesn't bother me in the least. If the shelf is cleared when I am looking for something then tough luck to me for not getting there sooner and I never assume that it was just one person who took all of the items. Sure, in this case, you saw the carts but to me it's not a big deal.

We have a local charity with volunteers who cook and serve meals every evening to homeless and working poor. I don't know much about them but they are filling a need since apparently the soup kitchen only serves lunch and this group serves supper... (as they say regularly on their Facebook page which they share on local news chaser pages.) could they be helping out a local charity similar to that in your area? That much clearance meat would be a huge help for a group like that since it would likely be cooked up and used that same day.

I don't have an issue with people stocking up on pink sticker items especially meat as it's so expensive.

i love raiding discount meat because it makes it affordable! I only take what I need and will use. I have a husband and two boys and my bill seems to be going up as they grow. Any discount, within store policy is a bonus! I really dislike the shelf clearers as well. I have noticed that happening around me. Rays BBQ was cleared the day after smart source came out!

Naw, the worst discount meat experience I have had with other shoppers is $.99/lb Cook's whole hams; the staff was tossing out hams one by one like they were feeding ravenous wild zoo animals.

    Peaceful deal-seekers don't bug me.

    Thanks for your comment francine1985
I see those volunteers too. They get a 'visitor' tag and are escorted by store employees. Store employees have the donation items ready for them.

    These were regular shoppers

I guess I look st it as its nice it's getting used? Grocery stores throw out so so so sooooo much food. I'm glad someone's buying it. Early bird gets the worm I guess? I'll take all the pink stickers of something if it's something we eat and can freeze like sausages. Saves my grocery bill over several weeks. Not ashamed to say I clear it either. If it'll go bad and get tossed it's better in my freezer. Maybe they were stocking up for an event of some kind?

I see it both ways -
Yes, it may totally suck to want in on a deal and see someone walk past with a cart full of savings
At the same time, I can't imagine those shoppers would be doing this on a weekly basis (how many people can they possibly be feeding, and where would they store all the excess meat?!)
So, some days you get lucky and other times someone else will get the deal. Your turn will come again

Aaahhh. I am glad you understand. The cartloads would fill a chest freezer with meat on one Saturday shop. The other two Saturdays, yes, where would they store them?

I did not want any of the pink sticker items. I saw a few people scanning the meat department after that near miss and one lady said to a man, no discounts this week. But there were discount! In a cart. Headed for the check out lines.

It doesn't bother me. Not one of us would ever complain about someone buying a cart of meat at regular price. If they are the first ones there when markdowns are put out, more power to them.

There's never any markdowns around here anyway. Look at the bright side, if they weren't volunteers or having a large bbq, at least they've stocked up and won't be back for a long time

The whole point of the pink stickers is to get rid off the items as quickly as possible. I think the store would be happy to see this.
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.
