CIBC Smart Prepaid Visa card

Noticed advertising for this card (US funds mentioned) on an in-branch monitor while waiting for a teller this week. I asked my teller if getting a US fund card would make one a US person. I was told no. I hadn't realized the customization fee for the card is over $5 for Cdn or $4+ for US.

I can see this card being a future item to get when funds allow in order to access US sites or paid webinars or buying digital sewing patterns. Has any SCer obtained the US fund card and found it easy to use on websites or have there been issues in using the card at certain retailer or vendor sites?

I also know the card has to be attached to one's account. Thanks for any tips or insights you can provide!

Just realized by searching for CIBC Smart items that I forgot that this is a separate bank account offered by CIBC. I'm not rich enough to get a second account.
