As to devaluation, that's usual practice with all loyalty programs but I wouldn't expect it too soon with AM as they can't afford more public backlash (Then again, management has proven themselves to be incompetent in the Age of Social Media).
I plan on using up most of mine over the next 6 months regardless partying for Canada's 150th.

I tend to use my miles each year in an attempt to lessen the devaluation. Hopefully the next devaluation doesn't come too soon.

I used to value am at about 15 to 20 cents each since I usually use them for reward flights and have Onyx 10% or BMO Air Miles Elite 25% reward flight discount. I am going have to dial that back if they are going to devalue am.
I am going to use my ~16k am asap to lessen expected devaluation.Last edited by Speedy69; Sat, Dec 3rd, 2016 at 01:35 PM.

Same here ... we maintain low balance on our Dream and Cash accounts to minimize loss on sudden devaluation announcement. We used to hoard and accumulate tons of Dream miles which worked for us very well for a period of time. Now we collected Dream miles only when we have specific items we want to redeem via personal shopper (e.g. Disneyland Deluxe Annual Passes, Cirque du Soleil VIP tickets ... etc). Since another devaluation may be coming, I may put a brake on our Airmiles related spending for now.

The guy in Red Deer who started the class action lawsuit wanted to go to South Seas with Air Miles would have probably paid more going on his trip paying with Airmiles.I think I did better buying movie tickets with dream miles and other small stuff then switching to cash miles when it came into existence then I just got rid of my dream miles buying $100 in Best Western gift cards for $40 and 400 Air Miles.I think I never did spend enough to get any trip because I just bought what I was buying anyway.

Ya I learned a long time ago never to use miles for overseas trips as it's a complete ripoff. Stick to NA/CA/SA and Caribbean like the article states.
Funny how a lot of people that are upset with airmiles were just going to waste them on oversea trips anyways
