    Hello,

I was gifted a Costco gift card for xmas (pretty excited to use it, since it will allow me in Costco without a membership!).

I know my prices of stuff so I'm excited to browse and look for some deals.
But it got me wondering, what do smart canucks buy at Costco?
    Thanks in advance

dairy: eggs, butter, cheese, milk, cream, half and half
The butter goes on sale for 2.85 or less when they have too much (ON prices)

gift cards: iTunes, Cineplex, Landmark cinema and restaurant gift cards are bought at a reduced price.
example $100 iTunes gift card for $83 is a warehouse flyer deal a couple of times a year

with no membership, can still get discounts at costco.ca

OP, you will get a one day membership at the customer service desk, so that you can use the cash card
you can get 2 x one day memberships in a year

You can buy gas at the costcoi gas bar with that cash card, no membershp or one day membership required to pump gas

Sometimes, there is a sale on chicken. Someone said that some stores are haing sales on fresh turkey.
There is usually one fruit item or veggie item on sale.
Clementines are overstocked now so they can be $3.29 per case.
In the summer, straberries are discounted.

Bananas, however, are about the same price at Giant Tiger

Unless on clearance at Costco (price ends in 97), use your coupons and points at regular stores to buy:
paper towels, TP, sunscreen, diapers, cereal or detergent

We usually pick up milk and cream. Most always cheaper than the grocery stores.
Look for anything that ends with .97 it's being reduced to clear.
We like to buy our naan bread there, great for small pizzas.
Rotisserie chickens are also a better price than most grocery stores.

Absolutely nothing, I found that without using coupons, I was spending more when the membership was factored in and its rare we got out of there without buying extra stuff.
Milk is generally cheaper, but not as cheap as SDM buying towards 20x or personal offer for me. Their cat litter is the only thing I miss about the membership

I agree. The ends in 97 deals are great. It's even better when they discount it a second time at 97. We loved the double discounts

OP, just one more tip. If you don't see what you want, at the price you want, be prepared to come back another day or buy at costco.ca with the cash card.

We watch Costco's seasonal sale pattern, seasonal clearance pattern and have gone there and come out with nothing. If the price is not right, we don't buy.

But you already knew this -- since you are a Smart Canuck

I find there are only a few things at Costco I buy, dairy products as stated above and garbage bags. I am not a fan of paying to shop anywhere and we have the card through our company otherwise I wouldn't shop there just for the handful of things that are an exceptional price. Most stores have incentive programs and reward me to shop, At Costco I have to pay for a membership, bag my own groceries, fight the insane amount of people shopping there and go 15 minutes out of my way to get there.

I am about to enter Year 3 of my Costco Membership, but I will not be renewing. I am not buying as much 'stuff' at Costco as I have been in the past because I have been buying more and more items online. Instead I will have friends buy me Costco gift cards (I'll give them the cash) since the only items I buy regularly are:

    - Kirkland Dog Food ($45 a bag)
    - Yogurt ($5.69 for 24)
    - Bananas ($1.99 a bunch)
    - Kirkland denim jeans ($16 a pair)
    - propane ($10 to fill a standard tank)

I love Better than Bouillon and I hear Costco has great prices on it. I don't have a membership but I am always following Costco news to hear of any deals. That would be the biggie for me.
@Shwa Girl , you are the Costco master! It would be nice if we had a Costco thread here so people could more carefully weigh whether they want a membership or not. I love hearing about your deals. Thanks!
