Thread: Surprise email
-
Fri, Jan 6th, 2017, 05:09 PM #1
Today we received an email from our internet provider Start Communications (remember that name). They started off "because you are a long standing good customer"......I'm thinking "here it comes we have to raise your rates" or they want to offer us a new (more expensive deal) but NO, they want to give us unlimited internet and a faster speed at no additional cost (we only pay $49/month and they have never raised our rate in 4 years )WHAT!!!. Are you serious!!! It's 2017, every internet, utility or cell phone company wants to raise your rate but mine is giving me more!!!!

Wow! That's generally unheard of. I know with bell and rogers the only long standing good customer notices I ever got while I was with them were to raise my rates. Lucky you!
(Rogers even raised rates on an old legacy plan that I'd had for 6 years without any notice...) >.>

Congrats to you @LunchLady !! Isn't it wonderful to get that sort of surprise? We got an email like that from Teksavvy about a month ago giving us an automatic discount and starting in January our bill drops to $44.95 a month for Cable 18 Pro, with 400 GB of usage. ( previously $47.95 )

There should be more of these going out from the smaller ISPs too. Like walkonby,we got one last month from Teksavvy lowering our rate too. The cap on the amount the big 3 can charge the resellers changed but they have to pass on the savings as part of the deal. So an extra yay for lots of people saving!

Yay to those of you getting a lower rate from your Internet provider! Why don't you share the names of the providers - other than those who already mentioned teksavvy..?

@Silk it is CRTC mandated so it is all networks who buy space on the lines from Bell, Rogers, Cogeco
Even with Teksavvy, what you got (discount or upgrade) seems to depend on package/customer

Depends on the plan, you will see $10-15 cuts on the bigger more expensive plans only.
